Seal Island@Norton Point Beach, Edgartown

Pictures in the MVTimes.com shows what things have come too on the vineyard. Seal Island off Wasque, what would have been Norton Point Beach. There have to be a couple of hundred seals lazily sleeping off the first good feed of small stripers they have eaten since last fall.

I made a suggestion that seals could take the place of Sqeategue to the Derby committee that stopped coming this far north in many numbers long ago. Just think of the reaction if someone even jokingly suggested fishing for seals.

Cluster bombs and Napalm come to mind.

Great picture! I used to like to see the seals looking back at me in the arly morning some 10 to 15 years ago. It was fairly rare and they were interesting the way they were obviously watching and studying you. Now they have become a big nuisance in many places. I don't think we should be killing them but I don't understand why you can't even shoo them away from certain areas like marina docks or beaches when hundreds of people want to use them. To me it would be like shooing away a bunch of birds eating your raspberries or a bunch of flies on your trash barrel. They can relocate somewehere else until they find a spot where they aren't a nuisance.
