30-40 Pounders

When & where (roughly - no specific spots need be injured in the making of this film) will they come first for Mass and for Rhody?

20s should be soon, but how about the first 30s? 40s?

This is early May after all :hee:

The Dad Fisherman 05-06-2010 07:47 AM

This Summer I plan on Inventory-ing all the spots where they Ain't.....my Usual summer plan :hee:

Supposedly a 27-1/2" striper caught here on Cape Ann the first of the season, was caught the other night in the Annisquam River approximately 10:30PM according to the Gloucester Daily times with his picture taken with the fish at home.

From where he caught the fish he takes it home(lives close by) had to take at least five minutes to walk to his house, he gathers his son, wife, the wife scrambles to take a picture in the living room, walks the fish back to the river and claims he had a successfull release. :smash:

If the enviromemental police read this story in the paper I would suspect they will be knocking on his door.

We had a clam shell warden once digging in a closed area and a newspaper photograher snapped his picture after sunset walking off the flat with a sack of clams in each hand. Needless to say he was bagged by the enviromemtals the next day with the paper article as evidence.

Should be some nice 30-40's outside the haba and on the south shore late May early June on live macs. Lets hope the bait stays around for a good bit.

Yup.
Maybe as early as the 15th, as evidenced by RT 's 50 last year.,.. coincidentally I had one just shy of the 30 mark the same night....

Caught my first big one of the year on the 15th, matter of fact we had ten fish that day(2 hrs. of fishing) that were over 30lbs. all caught on Mac's. Even called another boat over and they had a few nice fish also. All the fish were caught within 900 yds. of the breakwater.

This year, one week early, I think. Starting about now and for the next week we should begin to see some impressive catches (RI). That first push of big fish often has the best fish of the year in it - you don't want to miss it.

I agree with Joe and will be fishing this wknd just to prove myself right.

Big fish are fast approaching southern MA waters now. 20s are already here.

Starting next friday, we'll start hearing/seeing of 30lb minimums coming from Buzz Bay, Canal, MV and Eliz Islands.

Pogies are all over the sound. Macs are starting to show at east end of canal so things will be getting interesting over the next week.

Joe 05-07-2010 08:17 AM

We've had very good late spring weather - that's key. You can have a brutal winter and cold spring, but it's the weather right near the usual arrival date that is most important. This year, we seem to have been fortunate.

PaulS 05-07-2010 10:44 AM

Saw a 43# wens. morning (but it was in Conn.)

I was into the same size fish this morning...

Rockfish9 05-07-2010 01:27 PM

They show in the Merrimack every year between the first and second week in June...
