Cheap watch for surf fishing
 

I need to purchase a cheap watch (50 or under) for surffishing. The watch should be water proof and be set up with a glow option for seeing in the dark. I have a beatufull navy seal watch wich my wife gave me and am reluctant to beat it up surf fishing. I looked at the target website and am thinking of the casios. Does anyone out there have experience with this watch?

Check out the Timex Expedition Tide Tracker. I bought one last year just for fishing and kayaking and have had no problems. I think it was definitely under $50. You can set it to give you the tide for a specific spot and will also give you the water temp if you keep it submerged. I don't wear it much, but have never had any problems.

You can pick up a waterproof Casio at walmart that will do just about anything you need for $25.

But if you want just a little more The Casio gulfman is pretty nice. I picked one up on Amazon

Those Casio G-Shocks are great beater / fishing watches :btu:

Timex Iron Man watches are a good bet. Waterproof and real tough to kill.

Watch eBay for a gshock.

I have used my " Seal watch " for ten years now, how do you beat it up ? Think about what it's supposed to be .

Isn't that like have a Van Staal but looking for cheap Shimano for actual fishing?:confused:

swiss army. get one of e-bay for under 50. i generally get 5 to 6 yrs. out of one. does everything that your looking for and really takes a beating.

I like the G shock watches as well. I have one for five year now, powered by the sun. It has some type of storage battery. But I paid about 85.00 or so back than. With a twist of the wrist, it illuminates in the dark. A nice feature, when timing the fight. lol:)

I'll second that it's called Solar tough,very strong against abuse I've had mine for 6 years,I wear it for work and fishing and it's still holding tough.

I have a basic timex electric watch. Not just for surfishing it is rarely off my wrist not even when I shower. I think I have had it for 9 years. Probably cost me 30 bucks and a couple of batteries. I'll buy another when and if it dies. Probably be in sticker shock though.

Timex Ironman. I had one for years, 94' to be exact, and just lost it. Got another on Ebay for a grand total of $10.50

Why I am not using the navy seal watch
 

When I use the seal watch I dont take it off when I put on my bayman or phantom top the gaskets cover up the watch. I have tried the velcro strap and lost the watch. What I want to do is make an elastic band attach the watch by its pins to the elastic so I have a fishing watch that I can slip over the wrist gasket of my surf top. I wanted to try my idea with a cheap watch in case the watch comes off. If it works might try the navy seals watch but want to be sure it is secure. Charlie

I could never get ore than 6 months on a timex before destroying it. Usually 3.

I got a selfwinder for work and a Luminox for play which has held up for the time fishing so far.

I do chuckle on the luminox as I doubt any seal wants that spotlight on the wrist when trying to hide from bad guys :tooth:

I have 2 Luminox's with the velco strap and have been fishing with them for over 15 years with no problems except for the occassional battery change.

I use the Timex Iornman they go for about $ 35. I have to change the battery every year or two.

Ironman or G-shock. I can't believe G-shocks are that cheap now. I remember when they were quite the fashion accessory.

I have worn the Ironman for years, fallen, scraped it everything and nothing stopped it. I had to replace the velcro band because it stretched out but otherwise it does what it says - takes a lickin' and keeps tickin'

look around for some of the cooler colors and limited edition ones, the price goes way up.

If you need strap that will hold up, go with something like a nato or a dive strap. I am not a fan of velcro especially if you get sand in it. Just do a search and you can find them cheap.

I agree with using something like a seal watch to fish with rather than a plastic beater. I consider my watches as tools and they should be used for what they were intended. I wear a Tissot T-Touch that I've had for years that has temperature, compass, and barometric pressure functions. As long as it has a saphire crystal, I would not worry about scratching the crystal. The case on the other hand will get scratched.

beans has one with a carabiner attached, hang it off your surf bag, has a tide indicator too.

I am looking for a watch that has compass and tides which I found (Casio Pathfinder) but I also want to use it for running and I can't find one with interval times. You would think that this would be a basic feature on a stop watch (ex. run hard for 2 minutes, jog for 8 - then repeat). Anyway if anyone knows of a watch that does this with compass and tides it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks JP :jump1:

have the seal watch got at cabelas bargin cave.was great until battery wend dead.made the mistake of sendind to factory center for replacement and they told me swiss movement bad along with battery cost me alot of $$$ to get back,not too happy felt it was a rip off.still working next time it stops will get like local $10 battery replacement and if that does'nt do it will beat watch to death and buy timex.:smash:

I have always used a Freestyle Tide 2.0 watch, can't kill the things and i shower with it on every day. great tide feature and durability.
