Can't go wrong with a glass Lami. Both 3m models (the 11-1/2' and the 10') will work. capesams posted the model number of the 11-1/2, the 10' one is sb 121 3m.

these blanks love 5oz lead an bait. will toss 8oz as well. 7000abu or a penn704 work well for reels.

Thanks guys, I new you would no.
I don't do the surf much. I bought a brand new Diawa surf rod and a penn 650 two years ago and never used it still hanging in the basement.
I plan on getting my beach sticker for the Race here on the Cape this year. So maybe this is the year I will use it.
I pass on the info to my friend and see if we have time to get this done before we start putting my boat back toghter.

For really long casting in that weight range , the Allstar 11'9" builds to an awesome rod.

Thanks guys for all the info.
My budy has just told me he wants an all fiberglass rod 10' to throw 6 oz and want s to be a 1 peice. He does not want graphite. I think that blank that you guys are recamending id graphite. So any sugestions on a all glass rod. He has been looking at the Harrington (harnell) #542 but getting them is the other Question. The lady who answers the phone is a nut case!! I think I have tracked one down at Cut Rate sporting in Huston Texas for $90 for blank then add shipping.
So any other thoughts??
Thanks Macojoe

Thanks MacoJoe

The 3M is a good combination Bait/Jig combo

The 5M is great heavy jigging rod

Mike P 03-09-2003 09:56 PM

The 3M is rated 3-6 but will throw 8 in a pinch.

The 5M is rated 6 to more than you'd ever want to throw :)

I have both the 3M and the Harrington 542. The 3M is actually stiffer, and a few ounces lighter. If you really want to throw heavy weight, the Harrington to check into is the 552---order a back brace while you're at it ;)

Thanks again guys I have passed along the info.
