A Pleasant Surprise
AFTER buying and using a full length Painter's suit (white) KLEENGUARD
to help protect me while waging war on the copius amounts of POISON IVY here I've been cutting it all down with a brush cutter blade... I wrote (e-mailed) to the company to inquire about whether or not they are Machine washable or not... because no where was there any reference. I also Noticed on their website } Kimberly-Clark professional } that there was a Blue type R95 that is chemical Splash resistant but mentioned that home depot did not carry them. they responded with ...they are meant to be disposable and didn't reccomend trying to wash them. oooohhh kay Today i recieved an unexpected package that contained three new Blue suits that are chemical splash resistant for free. Cool :btu: so the point is ...it pays to write companies :uhuh: |
It's the begining Rave!!!! It's coming round. It's a small start but you will get what's due for all you've been through. Good for you! :jump1:
|
It's not a case of "the squeaky wheel gets the oil", but a case of a customer (possible returning customer) that they want to impress with their customer service.
I'd say a job well done! |
i forgot to mention that they also sent me three pro Dust masks too
as an added Bonus ..........so i cannot complain :grins: |
Raven -
after you cut it down are you going to spray something? or else it will grow back? curious because I have been waging the battle against it for many moons.....:wall: |
All right, come over and deal with my PI and then we can go fish

to kill poison IVY
there's three methods to win the war......
First you have to locate the BIGGEST vines usually growing up trees and they have very easy to distinguish brown hairy roots growing (attaching itself) to the BARK and CUT them clean with a very sharp axe so as not to splatter sap back at you......requiring one clean chop. This is because they (the biggest vines) make tiny blue berry clusters that birds eat and crap everywhere spreading it all over the place. Second you have to smother it (a patch) to death with black plastic to prevent any sunlight from getting thru then cover that with rock , sand, dirt or whatever heavy material you have around to anchor it down with ......so it won't blow away. Third ...you spray it with round up weed killer on sale at wally world for $15 buckaroonies in its own pump up and spray bottle. this is a systemic weed killer that is absorbed through the leaves and goes down to the roots and kills it. The spring leaves are easier to penetrate with the weed killer because it is new growth. Usually you need 4 consecutive days of sunshine afterwards for it to work GOOD or you'll have to re-apply it again.... On this property there were hundreds of stalk vines standing up 30 inches tall trying to compete with the barb wire like bittersweet vine so i chose to cut them low to the ground to make smothering out that much easier plus i am spraying any leaves i see. next, i will dig holes every 30 inches and plant sunflowers and cor n to shade it out and create a wind break at the same time. For me: all i have to do is look at poison ivy and flip it the bird and the next day i have it.... so it's a real WAR :rocketem::skulz: |
No fishing for you!!
|
Nice, my friend. It seems they truly appreciated your inquiry.:)

I have no clue how much, I ain't going back there to find out. It's not as much as you have. Not anywhere close.
|
it spreads like CRAZY
No other plant has the Audacity to spread
like poison IVY IMHO it tunnels under everything via roots....chokes trees to death and i swear it makes Pollen too... Euel Gibbons the plant man long ago was so whacky he'd eat it "Just" In springtime to create a resistance to it in his own body and i think it killed him... dogs walk in it you pet the dog and you've got it |

Raven, I have read this entire thread and I can't stop iching! I can't go near poison ivy... Every year we pickup poison ivy killer by the gallon and it comes back every year.... Example, went to the canal last year, dropped back for a cast hit a bush. Take a look at the leaves and step on them just in case. Three days later poison ivy all over me, (on the boots and the lure)???? That's one way to keep me off the canal, cover it in poison ivy! Mike |
well Mike
that's why i am so fond of Brewer's yeast
the nutritional yeast left over from making beer because it sends poison ivy blisters away fast... don't forget to take extra vitamin C and get pink with calamine lotion it pays to wear a long sleeved thin shirt to bed because otherwise you scratch and spread it in your sleep |
great customer service raven good things come to nice informed people, way to go.

In Conclusion
remember this....
poison IVY resin/oil can penetrate bluejeans it will be viable on those jeans for @2 years unless washed with a strong soap like say.... doh i worked til 1:00 am so i fergit LOL :smash: remembering to say...its on the tip of my tongue and i will remember -> then walk away from that mental thought train but wash your hands endlessly with this soap when ya can find it... it has to be strong laundry soap to cut poison ivy oil http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c6...felsnaptha.png |
I cut wood for years with a bud of mine. He would always get it. I've never gotten any ill effects in my life from contact.
|
I think you can still buy Green Soap which as a kid my father had us faithfully wash with after being in the woods and we never got poison ivy. It came as a liquid soap.

Possibly those with Scottish/Or Scandinavian skin /Ancestry it is SAID are more inclined to suffer the consequences of contact. ????????? Green soap? is that a brand name or a description of color? |
I can't answer your question Raven. As a kid I remember it being green and having a distinct smell, and my father insisted on using it in the manner of this How-To I found on the internet, although that Green Soap isn't green in color, just green because of the ingredients.
BTW, I'm not advertising the product just commenting on its past use. http://hubpages.com/hub/How-To-Use-Green-Soap |
Interesting JIMBO
i guess whatever soap kicks ass is a good idea to try it
here's a pine tar soap from yesteryear Grandpa Brands Catalog |
About the Scots getting PI bad, my father's got Scottish blood. One summer he was working landscaping on the Cape and got it so bad the only thing that eased the pain and discomfort was a cortesone shot and taking an old rocking chair down into Bass River and sitting up to his neck in the cool salt water.
|
Poison ivy (and bittersweet) are the work of the devil.:devil2:
|
our lot @ the Cape
our lot down the cape had so much poison ivy on it that it was literally
entrenched forever and unstop-able.... so what did we do....? we built a 3 foot high wall of stone all the way around it and then laid down a type of landscape mat that allowed for drainage and then we back filled the whole place with 3 feet deep worth of fill to win the war. for here.... with the Yard semi under control i now have just the garden area (HUGE) to contend with so tonight i bought a more specialized for poison ivy type of Round up that was more expensive at $ 22.50 per gallon . But for living next to saltwater........... i used to get in the Ocean water over and over and then sit on the beach every twenty five minutes or so until i was completely dry and I did that from sun up until it was dark allowing the SALT to work it's magic which at the time was the only way to make it go away  |
The soaps work much better if you wash with cold water because warm/hot water open up the pores in your skin allowing more absorption.
|
scrubbed up with lemon JOY soap
but i still LOST the BATTLE yelling-> (FUDGE) :fury: you know
->>what word i mean and i am miserable (on a physical level) unfortunately I was clearing an 11' x 22' area that was infested with P.I> and I got impregnated with P.I. oil (man i hate this plant) my arms that had JUST finally cleared up are now all itchy as hell wishing the ocean temperatures were allot warmer right now. ~ I am going on a pure WHEY protein and carrot juice diet for the next few DAYS to "clean out " and mega dose vitamins too. plus drink lemonade 80 degrees tomorrow to clean out the LIVER |
Try some ground rhinoceros hoof I hear it does wonders
:hihi: TECHNU IS YOUR FRIEND. |
thanks SCOTT
i'll grab some of this extreme stuff today
as calamine lotion isn't gonna handle it this time |
technu works the balls raven. Just keep putting it on every few hours and rub it in real good. It'll be gone in a day or so. Something about wood chips that draws the oil out...
