OK time to start the betting pool!

OK - who will be the first member of S-B, at the earliest dates this year to catch a schoolie bass at the West Wall ??

Any takers? Don't know if it will be me but I'll try. Just limited on when I can get down there. It pains me greatly to say this but I'm predicting its going to be Friday April 4th and I would like to say by me but dunno if that will happen.

As for non-site angler - I'd say Tommy M****** This Guy will be first :)

I have never fished the wall. If anyone wants to team up to go I would be interested. Fish start around here 1st week of April, but might be a little later this year due to cold. Keep an eye on the Long Island post! Its a short trip for the stripers from there and the flats heat up real fast. April 11th last year in Fairhaven.

Lots of the early reports from LI are winter-overs ;)

But I'm gonna start prospecting once all the ice is out of the bays.

Can we bet on ourselves? :bounce:

i'll go with april 13 for first 20+

vineyardblues 03-04-2003 07:39 PM

last year it was april 14th,,,and a keeper :)

JohnR 03-04-2003 08:05 PM

If I were a fishy scientist I might know better but I', guessing that all of the first fish we get a long the coast and the odd early season keeper - these are al holdover fish, many from the Thames. I don't think we see real keepers until late April. I had my first 20+ #er last year about the 3rd of May. TWO MONTHS FROM NOW!!!!

NICE DRAWING! I thought you were an inginuer!

Sure - you can bet on yourselves :D ...

And I was only using the West Wall as it seems to signify the opening of Striper Fishing in Rhody, by no means is it always the first because people get them almost all winter long in spots and none of the first fish from the wall are probably true first fish. But it is the symbolic opening of the Rhody surf scene for many and it's like opening day at Fenway Park to me :D

MountainBreeze 03-05-2003 08:54 AM

I will officially place my bet right now...

I bet it won't be me! :wall:

Bill one good blow and that house is in trouble, really don't know how they let that one go up???

JohnR 03-06-2003 08:32 AM

Its gonna be tough Dennis - I remember a few years ago it was March 18th.. Ain't happening this year ...

Saltheart 03-09-2003 03:11 PM

1 week of good warm days and it could happen early. My guess is it will be late this year but You never know! :) I've sen bright fish there in march so its not always just holdovers.

Don't count out newoprt area for the first RI fish either. Sachuest sticks way out there like the wall and results in some early action along its west side as well as second beach also.
