First Tins From Scratch
2 Attachment(s)
A friend of mine did an On The Water article last fall about the old-timers who made their own tins and it got me thinking about making a few of my own from scratch. I used RTV mold putty for my first attempt and it came out OK, though the putty sets up fast and is a real pain to deal with. 3.5 ounces, swims nice. (that's the one with the clay model in the pic) The third mold I did was made with pourable RTV, which I like a lot better. 2.5 ounces, casts great, beautiful action. I really like this one. (the three tins hanging from the chair) Both are pure tin. I hear there are some bunker around, so I've gotta try them out in the next few days.

Thanks guys - glad you like them. This is even more addictive than flytying; I suspect I'll run out of cash before I run out of ideas.

Peter,
Great job!!!! The next time you make the mold could you post some detailed pictures "how to". I would love to learn how to do this!!! Mike |
Thanks Mike - I'll see if I can put something together to get you started. I'm still a novice at pouring tin, but at least I have an idea of what NOT to do. I've already covered a lot of that ground. (LOL)
