yikes ! I was cursing a plug I lost one on Sunday because I crushed the barbs. Was going to change hooks back to barbs but after that pic I may stay without.

Salem Hospital? Or did you do the brown soap removal at home? I'll bet Ellen was thrilled....... I'm working directly across the street from the Castle, you should have come by for a cutter.

doc 05-24-2010 07:52 PM

Was there a dangling fish attached at any point?

StriperZ 05-24-2010 08:02 PM

I would like to second the welcome to the hook in the hand club. I hope it is resolved currently, and you are OK. Was a fish involved?

The best thing is not to panic. Get the hook off the plug. I am of the mind set: remove the hook ASAP. I do not recommend this to others, just me. Always have a cutter that can cut your largest hook, test it before hand.

I cannot guarantee that I will not get a hook embedded again, but I do know we will all get injured again, some how.

When I did it, I did not have a good cutter. I pushed it through, but couldn't cut it. Once the Harbor master saw the hook, they made me go to the clinic (I was heading for the hardware store to get a cutter).

This is a good link about fishhook removal:

Hooks in hand add character.
