Gag's Mambo Minnows
I'm having a lot of trouble finding them, especially 7". Anyone know who is carrying them? I tried Nelson's in Ptown, Goose Hummock in Orleans, and a bunch of online places.
HELP! |
I'll sell you a box for
ONE MILLION DOLLARS Can't be that hard to find ?? Hey when are the trips for Veterans? |
anyone else have a problem with the rear treble tearing through the back end of the plug, thus rendering the plug useless? I have about six that I need to return that all have this issue. never had a problem before. bad batch?
|
John, the Vets Fishing is June 5 (thus the need for the Mambos)....but your price is just a tad high.
And YES, I've had a problem with the rear hooks pulling, especially on the 5" models. Maybe that's why they're so hard to find...fixing that problem? |

Granby Bait and Tackle has a bunch. But that is probably quite the trip from where you are. I bet the owner Paul would ship you some. I will PM you his number.

The Mambos have quite a few versions offered by various lure companies. One company, Stamina, name changed to lurepartsonline, has discontinued the 7 inch model. My casting partner just cleaned them out of their last 25. Another company, Stillwater Lures, also makes them. Google it, they only wholesale but have various vendors in New England that can order them for you.

I have about 8 or so of the Black/Silver/Pearl left - they are old, but still in package. I got a couple of others too. They are not on the net, but in my basement. $5 each if anyone is interested....

#^^^^&'s and Walmart often have them in stock. I was in LL Bean a couple of nights ago and the had a bunch of them.
The Surfcaster has them and if you call they will normally get to you in two or three days. Terminal Tackle Co also usually has them but this time of year may be 5 days before you get them. |
Surfland Carries them also

At the price of a freshwater lure ($7-8/piece), I don't think the Mambos are really made to take the pressures that many of us put on them quite frequently. This is unfortunate because often times a Mambo Minnow can breaks open the fishing. On the other hand, last night 4 of us were out fishing, all using Mambos. We caught 30-40 fish between 26-33" and only one Mambo was sacrificed, and not by a fish... http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/812/oopsp.jpg (Fortunately, not me) |
Ouch.
Aren't the lure blanks sold by stamina and Janns netcraf. Identicle to mambo minnows? Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
ouch. I hear you on braided line and tight drags. but i fish a soft drag with plugs and to be honest, i'm not even sure I hooked a fish the last time it happened  used to be one of my favorite plugs :(

They are all made by Ken#^^^^& and sold by Weaver lure who you can buy direct from with better colors than Stamina etc too.

Thanks for all the help. I did find some, finally, and Benny's. They only had one color, but it was the color I was looking for...so bought a bunch.

Ouch, at least the barb cleared the skin.
I like the mombo minnows. I like the greenish olive whatever color. I think its a light lure and so probably the rod used to toss it would have some feel to it , not a pool cue, and you should be able to land fish without pulling hooks. Now I think something has changed because I never remember people complaining about the hook letting go as a frequent occurance or gripe about the lure. |
