PP 65#
 

anyone find that this pound test digs in like the lighter pound pp causing problems with drag and snapping line off.

thinking of changing brands but still have a big spool of 65 pp left.

Dude, lose the 65. Like I told you a year ago. :smash: 50 is fine. 65 is like cable and in the last location we fished together you want all the distance you can get.

Never, ever had an issue with 65# PP...I love it. I use it strictly on my conventional setup.

I use 40# and 50# on my spinners.

same here, at least for bass. 50 gives much better casting performance. I do have 65 on one big spinner for tuna. Although I am thinking of stripping it off and going to 50 on that just for more capacity.

If 50 is spooled properly you won't have that problem, 65 is over kill IMO.

Been using the 50# PP in yellow and I love it.

I USE 65 PP. I WANT TAKE A CHANCE AND LOSE FISH LIKE I DID LAST FALL. 60 LEADER. YOUR LINE IS DIGGING IN BECAUSE IT IS NOT TIGHT ON THE SPOOL. ONCE IT IS LOOSE, LIKE FISHING PENCILS, THEN LOOK AND SEE HOW LOSE IT IS ON THE SPOOL. THEN CHECK AFTER A JIG. YOU WILL SEE THE DIFFERENCE

i spooled my VS250 w/ 65 PP this year.... not a fan. Caused me a lot of trouble one night on the south side of montauk.... perched on a rock nonetheless. My other reels have Suffix braid and I personally like it much better.

I'm considering giving fireline a try on my VS250.

I've been using braid since converting from mono, but i've heard good things about fireline... i might give it a go.

What he said (without all caps ;) ). If 65# braid is digging, it's not tight enough on the spool. You have to wind it on under heavy tension to start with. And if you're fishing lures that result in loose line, every so often make a few casts with a sinker or bucktail to get it tight again.

is ideal and more than strong enough for anything you want to fish for. I have it on my two VS 250's, my two Saragossa's and my Emblem Pro 5500. No issues at all with Power Pro 50 lb on any of them.

To repeat what has already been said, you have to make sure your line is packed on your reel tight. It can't be said enough that if using a light weight lure you need to let the line out occasionally and retrieve under heavy pressure. If you do this after fishing you might try this while wearing a wet leather glove.

Also, when putting your line on your reel, first put on packing or at least wrap a strip of duct tape around the arbor of your reel - you don't want any slipage of your line.

lighter, limper line seams to pack better with lighter lures. if fishing bombers, etc. i'd tend to go with 30 or 40 lb braid. save the 65 for heavy jigging, rigged eels, etc.

personally, i hate power pro. also, where i fish, i see no reason for line heavier than 50. 20, 30 and 50 suffix meet all my needs.

Original poster Needs to specify spin or conv. I like the 65# for conv. I was using 50# just fine but whenever I'd blow yo a reel the 50# took forever. Just need five more yards.... :( the 65# is easier to pick out too. 30# spin on sand. 50# suffix on spin for places that look like the face of the moon.

using on spin gear. first year on the 65, last year i did 50. i figured more is better so don't have to tell any "the one that got away" stories. like what the cub scouts say... be prepared.

looks like vmc's straighten before pp breaks anyway. never really had any issues with pp, just heard it's not as round as some of the other brands. anyway, just bought a bunch of 50 suffix on the edge today.

Huge fan of original Fireline on my VS. Have not had a break off in over 2 years. Well, I have but that was on the Penn with Power Pro.

Fireline is perfect for fishing rocks as it has much more abrasion resistance. I have lately been fishing barnacle covered rocks and catching 20 - high 30 pound fish in heavy current and not had a break off yet.

Did I mention that I hate Power Pro? No?

Anyone use the Daiwa Samurai Braid? Man, that stuff feels like silk. That's going on my reels next.

don't like it for around rocks. not as good as suffix
great for distance though like canal fishing or sandy beach

I even put some on a 7' boat rod with stradic 5000, seems to cast nice

How would you compare the abrasion resistance compared to PP?

I notice your located near me.... you're having a lot better luck than me because I have not been nailing 20-30 lb fish!!!

I use light tackle. 20# power pro brain on spinners (4000 series) with 50# mono leader. Since the eyelets are small, I use a PR knot to attach the leader, it stays straight with no knot in the leader. Shimano Saragosa 4000F with a 7 foot pole, Shimano Terramar. I usually get big bass on this(see other posts). Magibraid is good line as well.
