Big Dave Thomashey conventional casting clinic

I got some great news. Big Dave has volunteered to do a casting clinic for us here at Striped-Bass. The plan is to have the clinic on sat April 12 at 8AM. It will involve a sort of classroom session and then a hands on casting session. The plan is to have the class session at Slipknots then drive to the water nearby and do the hands on with personal instruction by Dave.

This is a great oppurtunity to learn conventional casting from one of the world's best casters. Dave will talk about reel tuning , rod selection , how to compress rather than bend a rod ,mechanics of the cast , etc. I think the individual hands on instructions will be extremely useful to everyone.

OK , now the bad news. In order for everyone to get individual instruction , the group will be limited to 12 guys. If there is more interest , Dave will schedule another session at a later date.

So start signing up.

John R , Smokey , Slipknot and myself are going. That leaves 8 more places open on a first come first served basis. Keep signing up after you see 8 more names though so we can see if there is enough interest for a second session later in May.

John and Salt Glad to be able to do it for you guys. Good to see a nice turn out For sure there will be a 2nd group and we will se how it goes beyond that.

A BIG Thanks to slip as well for the use of his place. All of you that attend will come away with great information on reels and rods and what it takes to put it all together for better casting and performance.

Reels and tuning

You will al be able to tune your reel into what Tagger has Named mine to be a Hemi. I will also show certain tricks and modifications and simple ways to enhance your reels.
You will also learn how to set it up and control it.

Rods
What to look for in surf rods and blanks to evaluate performance.
I will cover what takes place during a cast and cover proper casting techniques my focus will be primarily on practical over hand casting. But depending on the day we can cover a couple of other techniques for the beach guys.

All that attend will no doubt come away with a lot of great information and improvement in casting skills.

As for the 2nd group we will have to work out the date on that. If it cant be the following week it will have to be at the beginning of may
