Block is Loaded - Stripers Gone Wild 2 Starts
I love it when shooting an episode goes according to plan. Put bait in water, fight big stripers on light tackle, land fish, retrieve tags, release fish.
A pre-dawn raid on Block Island yielded great striper fishing as well as terrific underwater photo opportunities. Enjoy seeing a bass-eye view of stripers in available light. These photos provide an intimate look at stripers under the early morning sun. These images and high definition video clips will be featured on a new DVD titled, "Stripers Gone Wild - 2". "Striper Islands" is near completion. Click on the photo to see a slideshow. Mike http://laptew.smugmug.com/Underwater..._M6hJd-L-1.jpg |

Thanks for rejuvenating my enthusiasm...it was waning after the last few attempts.. Still watch your first video "STRIPERS GONE WILD" and continue to marvel at your underwater photography. |

Great shots, Mike..:kewl: |
Great shots Mike, thanks
|
Super!
Some nice fish. You take great pictures. |
Mike,
I always wonder. What happens to the school when a fish is hooked? Do they disperse somewhat, or do they tend not to notice? I know from freshwater fishing that the other fish tend to not move very far. Great shots. |
Awesome shots love waking up to striper slide shows

You got some great material to work with there, Mike.
I notice the forward dorsals are not extended in those shots... When do the fish use them, extended? Just wondering..... (unless they're just for spining me when I get a feisty one within reach....) |
Great shots....my work day was just shot to hell!! Every number I look at swims away...three day weekend here I come.

I'll be looking for Mass Bass over the next few days....shhhhh, don't tell my wife, she thinks where going on a 'family' vacation....when she sleeps -- I make a run for it.

What do you think?
I enjoy your videos but would like to see plugs or even bait fishing shown from the striper's perspective. For example, the proper way to work different plugs showing how they imitate/mimic the bait fish from underwater (maybe even a side by side showing the bait fish and the plug both in action). I would like to see the fisherman working a plug showing what they do and how it makes the plug act from above and below the water. Bait fishing might be boring to film but seeing what a persons bait is doing might be informative. More of a how it works type of perspective. With the number of plug types available there would be plenty of options to film. I have been thinking about getting a long fish tank and using a power head (for current) to see the action of plugs from the fish's perspective, if I ever get around to it.

Thanks for all your kind words regarding my work. Ecduzitgood, you'll be happy to know that I'm chipping away at capturing both bait and plugs in different settings. The same day I shot the photos I found a half dead eel on the bottom and I dropped it into a mess of stripers down below...very revealing footage and the results didn't surprise me at all.
|
always wondered how a bass hits and takes an eel... is that intital smack you feel a tail slap, and then it comes back again? We all know the hit, pause, then the actual take... would love to know for sure... and if it is actually a tail slap first, than a take, why dont they do the same thing for plugs? or do they?

Mike those are fantastic shots. I love the "striper scenes" I sure would like some prints of those or maybe even a screensaver:drool:.
I just don't know how you do it. You just keep getting better and better. Thanks for sharing with us and I can't wait for the vid. |
