Check that number, there is a 10,000 dollar tagged striper lurking in the ocean.

jasonsnova 07-05-2010 02:50 PM

where do i check it??

nightfighter 07-05-2010 03:11 PM

Looks like an American Littoral Society tag, yellow dorsal tag.

Try here; ALS Tagging Tagged Fish

Since you released it without taking the tag, I wouldn't worry about it.

numbskull 07-05-2010 05:15 PM

Send in the tag number and info, they will use it. Often you'll get a token reward (like a hat) for your trouble.

stripermaineiac 07-05-2010 06:17 PM

The info is still important. Check with one of the Jearsy clubs they should be able to help you

jasonsnova 07-05-2010 06:57 PM

thanks guys, ...rewards arent a big deal just a cool thing to run across.... i'm looking into it now.

ProfessorM 07-05-2010 07:02 PM

that's cool. Let us know what you find out please.

after looking at their website i dont think it was one of there tags, the website says there tags are yellow loop tags, this wasnt a loop tag as you can see.....

Slipknot 07-06-2010 07:32 AM

it looks like it could be a loop, but you can't tell under the seaweed, there is something else written under it

but then again that seaweed might not be there if it were not a loop.

did you take the seaweed off before release?

I am not an expert at all, that is just my observation
I never caught a tagged bass

jasonsnova 07-06-2010 07:48 AM

it wasnt a loop, i did move the seaweed and take some off, didnt want to keep it out of water too long though plus the mouth was a bit rough and it wasnt easy lol.

You might want to contact these guys for info:

Berkeley Striper Club

Looks like the tag and number are consistent with their tagging program.

denis 07-06-2010 08:00 AM

Your tag is from, the Berkley Striper Club, they are out of Seaside Park NJ.

There #908-244-7968.

Hope this helps.

jasonsnova 07-06-2010 09:23 AM

thanks guys your a great help! i'll get the scoop!

JackK 07-06-2010 10:05 AM

Normally you end up with a hat and a certificate of participation. I once got a GIS map that showed where it was originally tagged and where I eventually caught it, along with a projected route. Kinda cool.

jasonsnova 07-07-2010 06:46 AM

it was a berkley striper club tag, i emailed fred, in a return email he said he was going to get me the tag info(when where how big etc) and i get a patch....pretty neat.

jasonsnova 07-09-2010 06:37 AM

turns out the fish was tagged on may 27th 2010 off race point cape cod......so wasnt quite as big of a journey as we thought (yet). but its still swimming! still neat to be able to get the info...
