Lure weight help?
I need some advice, when I switch lures I have been getting ungodly snags in my line. I was using 30# mono line, throwing a 3 1/4 oz pencil, I switched to a 2oz popper. On the second cast I got an unbelievable line knot on the cast that was unrepairable. I use a 10' rod with Penn 750 reel. This seems to happen to me when I switch weight,it has happened several times. Should I loosen drag with the lighter lure? I had to restring my entire spool. Is there something I should be doing when I change lures?

Change your line and use braid. I prefer 50# power pro.
Check the roller on your bail to ensure it is moving and not seized up. Causes line twist. |
Ty,
30 pound mono is on a spinning reel is too heavy IMO. Best to drop down to 20 pound mono if your plugging with different weight lures. That will help. Like Redlite said - braid is also an option. DZ |
You can also try changing to 15-17 lb mono if you don't want to use braid....30 lb Mono is just to "thick" for properly casting a lure that light.

I don't think that I would use Power Pro on a Penn 750. I would go with Fireline for that reel if you want to try braid. Like DZ wrote, try 20# mono.

more mono get a big 1# spool of Berkely Big Game (color? green) or Ande 20# back Country if you can find it and be sure to respool every 5 or so outings. Clean limber line beats year old sundried mono any day. Also make sure that you are reeling on the line tight enough in the first place. Wow, just thinking of how heavy my old 8500SS and 10' Daiwa was is now making my shoulder hurt. |

Close your bail manually

Thanks for the advice, I will try the braid. Afterall I am so damn good it couldn't possibly be my fault? Right? Defective equipment all the way, kind of like my bazillion dollar golf clubs. They don't hit the ball straight at all. Damn junk!
