Bastid !!!
Your'e gonna be in before me.....

Did you change the separator in the fall? If not do it now.
Did you add fuel stabalizer in the fall. If not add fresh gas.

Whats with antifreeze ?? I've never even heard of that ???

The fogging fluid will smoke like crazy for a while, thats about it.
Your'e good to go...
Grrrrrr....

He has an I/O and thus antifreeze in the block for winter... MM - I'd wait a week or two before drainging that - still going to see some cold nights.

And you need to drain the antifreeze first. You don't want it to go thru the engine / outdrive / and into the ground. So drain it into a container and dispose normally.

Ohhhh..

I thought he had an OB....:smash: :smash: duh...

mrmacey,
I agree with John, you probably want to wait another week or two before un-winterizing your boat. I think we still have a few more 20 degree or less evenings to deal with.

My target date is unwrapping it on the 28th (have some electronics to install). I have to drop it off then to have tabs installed.

It's coming fast :)

mrmacey 03-12-2003 09:31 AM

i heard the separator only needs to be changed every other year where i gas up at sta

you guys that get your gas at docks need to check separator more often is this true i figure with the temps just throw heater on if it really dips down little heater goes under engine hood draining is easy on this it has hose you just put in bilge it comes right out back of boat i got some stuff to install itll be about another week or so depending on wife and new baby her mom is comin to stay for couple weeks i need to get out lol!!

Mr. Sandman 03-12-2003 11:02 AM

whats the rush? nothing to catch out there for a while yet. There is still ice on the ponds...give it a month. Your going to be fished out before they even arrive!

B-assman 03-12-2003 11:41 AM

Mr Macy - Im with you - Cant wait to take out the new toy - I'll be out there sat and/or sunday! Looking forward to performance testing my Suzi 140.

Re freezing - I see guys with outboards leaving their boats in all winter - mostly quahoggers. Do i need to worry about water in the engine when the temp dips? When you tilt her up - do they drain out completely?

Thanks
Dave

B-assman,
You better wear a good windbreaker, your going to need it with that 140, she is going to fly. Don't forget to do the break-in properly though....!!!

B-assman 03-13-2003 08:02 AM

179- thanks. Yes i definitely will be following the break in procedure to the letter. Althought Scott (at Viking) was not really too concerned that I do so. He suggested to "just go boating" running her at varrying RPM's - not WOT for extended periods. The manual says

First 15 min at idle
Next 1:45 at < 3000rpm
Next 1:00 at 4000 rpm
Next 7 hrs at desired speed - not WOT for more than 5 continuous minutes.

Im not sure what im going to do driving around at 3000rpms for 2hrs - but I'll have fun doing it!

Just go sight seeing......LOL. Let us know how she runs, the 185 is a great boat.

Billybob 03-13-2003 08:36 AM

Bassman - It's important that you store your outboard all the way down, otherwise a little water can freeze in the water pump.Mr Macey - I like to change my plugs every spring, their cheap enough.I run it on the old plugs to burn off the fogging oil, then I put the new one's in.Were you the one looking for a spare get-me-home prop for a mercruiser, I still have one, it ain't pretty but it'll work as a spare and it's free if you want it.Just e-mail a business adress if you have one and I'll send it.
Bill

MakoMike 03-13-2003 08:49 AM

B-assman,
Like Billy said, leave your outboard in the running position until the danger of freezing passes. I'll be starting work on the boat this weekend, probably a couple of more weekends before I'm ready to rock'n roll.

mrmacey 03-13-2003 08:53 AM

hopefully

the sun melts this snow this weekend next week in between changing diapers and chaseing dog with dirty diapers i might be able to put my gps in and im looking for a chrome 4 rod holder oh boy i could go on and on!!:smash:

What's this winterizing stuff you guys are talking about:). I fished yesterday, stored the outboard in the down position all day, while playing with schoolies.

"uffah!!" 03-13-2003 11:57 AM

Talkig about scoolies

This is what I saw in the Providence River on Monday!

"uffah!!" 03-13-2003 12:00 PM

Speaking of Schoolies

Sorry, I don't know how to shrink the picture I took of the schoolies feeding in the Providence River by the Narragansett Electric Power Plant.

JohnR 03-13-2003 12:33 PM

E-mail it to me....

But there are NO fish in the Providence River, none, zero - better off heading to the Thames :hihi:
