Sebile Stick Shadd - Cost Effective Alternatives? MAYBE!
 

Talk about an ungawdly amount of $ to lay out for a lure! But the results do speak for themselves.:uhuh:

After watching some YouTube it looks to me like these are just fancy subsurface glide baits. Musky guys have used plugs with a similar action for quite a while.

So, what might do the trick without breaking the bank? Some ideas:

Rapala XRap Subwalk 15 - A subsurface walk the dog plug. 6" and 2oz..

Yo-Zuri Edge Trembler 125 - Similar to the Rap, but much thinner in shape. 5" and 1oz.

Search these on YT, and watch their actions. They may do the job at a much nicer price.

I heard that next year's Sebile lures are going to be packaged with hardware that is actually usable. I'm sure that will add another couple of bucks to the price.

I use Yo-Zuri and XRap lures and have had a lot of success with them this year and last. Haven't had the chance to use them next to someone with a Sebile to see how our fish catching pairs up though. Thanks for the info, I've been wondering about the Subwalks.

They look nice but the Stick shad I use is 4.5 oz. Not sure if a 2 oz.'er will get the same depth.

25$ really isn't that ungodly considering how much a decent wooden plug is.

30-35 bucks for an injected plastic lure with hardware "YOU NEED TO REPLACE WHEN YOU BUY IT?" Thanks I will pass. The results are undeniable but I always tend to go against the grain and not with it. :rotf2:

Cordell needs to come out with one for $8

That is EXACTLY the reason I won't buy one.

There is no reason a plastic lure needs to cost that much money.:uhuh::uhuh: Unfortunately when the economy gets back into swing you will see the cost of Everything go way up.

A lot of the guys that said would never buy . Now they own a few of them. The point is they are sold out almost every week and there is a reason they work.

I bet a little tinkering with 7" Redfin, a hacksaw, a drill, some lead shot, and a bit of mineral oil could yield just that!

Every plug builder should buy and swim the magic swimmer . Just to study this lipless wonder. I love the slow sink and it owes me nothing . The stick shad is also a very good plug . The fast sink seems to be made just for the canal . You can get down and when you crank at the end of your drift it comes to the surface .. No getting hung up on the edge or pots . I bought a couple just to check out the hoopla and now own 5 . This reveiw is canal only .. I havn't fished the beach with these plugs but the shallow beaches I fish I'd probably have to retool with all floating or slow sink. I must admit at the canal I fish alot of plastic .. sebille, storms,north bar,cordell, super strike and eyeing rapala.. On the beach I'll take a 2 tubes of needles then fill in the rest .

That being said the best bang for the buck is cordell... I wouldn't want some kid thinking he had to have a sebille ..

That does not sound very fishconomic.

But they are silly good at the canal and they have taken fish while others were getting skunk. I know of quite a few fish coming in on them.

Yes, there are some cheaper alternatives but I don't think they are as good. Yet.

The plugs that you find in your present day surf bag will someday be replaced with different types. Hard and soft plastic can be molded shaps and patterns that a wood lathe can't produce.

Not to mention consistency . You tell your buddy it's a good plug ,, He runs down and buys one and it's the same . Bob Pond figured that out in 1948 .

You know I said I wouldn't buy them. But guess what when you're standing right next to your buddy tonging fish after fish on them your mind will change real quick just like me.

We now call the area of the Sebiles ,Crack Corner.
When you try it just once your hooked you will have to attend countless hours at (SA) Sebile Anonymous to quit.

it takes a very strong will to walk down "Crack Alley" and not get a fix...so many colors, patterns, weights, etc...you just "need" to have them all.

Its okay! We all know you tackle box is full....

We do ... Freebie (troll name Gurney/ER) does very well on the storms jointed ..

I own one that I got for free, and I pass on the thing every time... it never stays in my bag long... Maybe I missed the big announcement that this lure meant the difference between fish and no fish this year... maybe I need to give it another try... the hooks look garbage though... if youre gonna charge 35 bucks, give 35 bucks worth... and if its geared for fresh water, then why is mine a mack pattern with garbage hooks???

The only heartbreak to the Sebile is when fish hit so hard they snap your leader! I can't express how hard fish hit this lure! One guy yelled jokingly at me to let others catch some fish! That said there are three fish swimming around with one stuck in their mouth.
I am a "crack corner" believer. Mike may retire early the way I've been going through these.

I was strong today. I had one in my hands at Cabelas, and I put it back on the shelf.

I did grab 2 Rapala Subwalks though! For $11.50 each, why not?

Because you can't use both of those rapalas at the same time. Should have gone with the stick Shad.

They definetly work. Still won't fill my bag with them. Fun plug to work and watch.

Seems people are bumming on the price which is understandable but still not as bad as buying a wooden metal lip that comes unrigged that will not get fished.

I would continue to use them at $60 ea. and they would still be most "Cost Effective" plug when considerng catch rate. They really are worth the dough.

When many of speak of their effectiveness and catch rate, what is the application? canal? boat? I fish mostly surf, and the thing just seems way too light for the conditions I like. I am ALMOST ready to give mine a try... I should just trade it to someone for a nice needlefish... Besides, Hype usually turns me OFF to an item, not the other way around. call me stubborn

The Sebile is extremely effective in the ditch. I certainly can't qualify the fish I cath as "skill" must be luck and the lures. I have caught several off pencils and poppers, but lately the big fish seem to hit the Sebile really hard, and prefer it to all the other guys around me throwing pencils,poppers etc.
