Be very very quiet!

This posted on Cape Cod National Seashore website.

"Large numbers of seals are hauling out on a sandbar at High Head in Truro. If you go to see the seals, stop your vehicle before you reach the bar, or drive past it before stopping. Obey posted signs and close doors quietly to reduce disturbance."

Close doors quietly!? This is the Park Service equivalent to those "Baby on Board" signs people hang in the windows of their Volvos.

First you couldn't kill 'em, then you couldn't harass 'em, and now you can't even wake 'em up!

Rob Rockcrawler 07-31-2010 09:48 PM

Just when i think i have heard it all. I wonder if they want them to stay on the beach so the sharks dont get em.

JohnnyD 07-31-2010 10:03 PM

One step away from being protected similarly to plovers. All it will take is someone to go out there and kill or injure a single seal... then consider the beaches officially closed for good.

You know first hand that there are people poaching deer out there. How many nips do you think it might take for one of them to try and shoot some seals?

SurfCaster413 07-31-2010 10:23 PM

The beachs will never open if they start protecting them damn seals!

BassDawg 08-01-2010 06:43 AM

A baseball bat to the head will keep them out for a while.

With all due respect,, i think you guys are missing the point..
When you said CapeCod National Sea Shore-----YOU LEFT OUT THE LAST WORD AND THAT WORD IS P*A*R*K.
NOW WHERE I COME FROM A PARK IS FOR PEOPLE AND A WILDLIFE AREA IS FOR ANIMALS.
So who in blazes is turning a human park into a wildlife refuge???????

2na 08-01-2010 01:04 PM

guess I'll have to stop honking at them as I drive by to spook the herd....

FYI there is a 'activist' monitor there (Friends of the Seals, or some crap like that) making sure the world is safe for seals. Back 3 weeks ago at 1st light some tourorist drove through the sticks to get a better look, the looser saw the tracks and lost her mind, went running up to the station and wanted the beach closed - she blamed the camper people, because we all know they just can't get enough of seals.

What gets me is that, without any human intervention, the seal population has rebounded to the point that the idea of culling the herd is going to have to be explored soon. Now they feel that we need to do more to enable the seals to live a stress-free life. Maybe the seals just need a Ritalin perscription.

I did my part this morning by feeding two of them (the seals, not the Friends).

ProfessorM 08-01-2010 01:23 PM

time to break out the Mr. Microphone.

I like wild animals as much as the next guy, but gimme a break with the lovefest over the cute fuzzy, bacteria laden , pooping polluting water, fish eliminating, plug stealing,:yak5: disgusting, dangerous , great white shark and killer whale bait that they are.

It will never be the same

I hear they have the seals on welfare now. Food stamps and everything. Now all they do is hang out on the bar and don't work. Plus, they figured out that the more babies they have, the more money they receive. They now have giant flat screen tvs up in the dunes and some are dealing crack over at cotuit. Gdamned seals...

Too funny!!:rotf2:

Just another drain on the system.

I hear they now qualify for section 8 status.

I head that over 95% of striped bass were against the unopposed entry for the seals to Chatham and produced legislation to curtail the porous sandbar homesteading, but an activist bluefish judge struckdown that legislation. Now, more seals have been emboldened to come, sanitary conditions have declined due to the increased pressure on local facilities (seal shat), and word is that more lawyer Great Whites have arrived to both snack on their newfound clients and to discourage the local human population to interfere.
