how's the fishing in Maine?

Hey guys, last minute trip to Maine with some friends. I was told their house was inland on a lake, but it turns out its only 20 minutes or so outside of Belfast, Maine. Any idea of how the surfcasting is up there right now? They don't fish, but I should be able to get up and out under cover of darkness at least once or twice! I am not looking for any "spots" per se, just wondering in general, this time of year, this year more specifically etc. I guess we will be 30-40 minutes from the Rockland area as well. I am aware of a few Maine fishing blogs, but I just found out, was already logged in(to the best damn forum out there) so I thought I would ask. I have to run to work to tie up a few loose ends and so I don't have time to scroll through a bunch of old posts on Maine sites. I basically have 20minutes to check this post when I get back, throw my plug bag in my truck and go! any help would be appreciated!!
