Got my first good crop in some years, they luv this heat, and this storm is most likely going to blow them all off the friggin tree before they are ripe. Just tried one and they are too hard still. Probably going to loose some apples too. :wall:

Go out with a baseball glove and "shag a few fly balls" 'cause with the wind that's what I could be like.

Would it be feasible to try putting up some netting to catch the ones that fall?
Is there grass under the trees that might cushion the fall and minimize any bruising of the fruit?

I'll be over tom. before the wind to taste some, hard is ok by me

P. could you try wrapping some of the peaches in newspaper, like green tomatoes to ripen?

I remember that Bob dried up a bumper crop of beach plums. Coulda cried. We were on the "dry" side of the storm. The wind withered everything. Leaves were crispy.

LOL. Yes grass underneath. Already lots of drops, natural occurrence and last weeks Nor easter, on ground now. Friggin yellow jackets are having a field day with the rotten ones. But still lots left. No sweet taste yet so not worth picking. Looks like it isn't going to blow any worse than last weeks Nor easter in this area so I may be ok. Not sure Dave if you can ripen them like that but i will try one to see.

Hey Fred I picked a bumper crop of beach plums last week on Sandy Neck and wife has already made jam, soooo good. I was living 1 mile inland from Craigville Beach during Bob it was a very dry storm, we never really got any rain at all from it. Trees had terrible case of wind burn, the ones that didn't blow over.

My Dad was a peach coinsure as his Uncle grew them near Middletown NY and
he new every variety of peach grown. :)

He offered the neighbors peaches by the peck from the farm and we drove
up with my Grandfather's open 2 wheel trailer to get them.
Two hour drive back with them bumping around in the trailer, about 50% of them
bruised beyond recognition. :hihi:

Now my Dad could swear up a storm, not as good as Clammer :doh:,
but the air was blue all night as we tried to sort and save a few for each neighbor until 2 in the morning. :D

What kind of booze can you make from peaches??

Picked the very end of this year's Beach Plum crop today. Those that were worth picking were very sweet and flavorful, should make great booze and jelly. Earl was kind to us.

yup peaches are still hanging, a non event and that is fine by me
