Rooftop Rod Racks

it is time to change the rod rack on top of my Ford Explorer. Does anyone have a recommendation? Thanks.

Mosh,
It your old rack is a scissor type ski rack,
which I am looking for, shoot me a PM

I use a thule system (roof rack, ski rack). Works well for me, and locks. I wouldn't leave reels on it for long though, especially expensive ones... But it works well to just transport and secure the rods.

Another vote for the Rod Vault.

I use the same. Works for me. can hold up to 4 rods and a snowboard.

I'm happy with my rod vault also. Just need to protect the stem of the reel or it will get banged up a little. My reels are rashed up pretty good so I could basically care less.

Are the rod vaults available anymore?

I have a used thule snowboard rack that I'll let go for 50 bucks. Needs a new lock. I never locked them as I wouldn't ever leave them on top un attended

On the Rod Vault, how strong are those front clips? Do they every release open while driving? Stupid question, but from the pics on line, I cannot tell.

Westport if you still have the rack i'm interested.

There is another option. Mike Warecke owns Fishing Innovations in CT. For his website google Locking rod holders. Expensive but very high quality.

A friend of mine and club member who works at Rivers End got one recently and very good components and locking. I am going to get one from him when I get the dough.

Those are the nicest out there but like you said they are very expensive.
