My humble beginings
Quote:
I did tye a couple diffrent freshwater patterns (wooly buggers & mickey finns) but always thought it was too much work to tye those little flies. I had my freshwater breaking point last year when I ended up catching more ticks than trout. Since then I've started tying lots of different saltwater flies.....decivers, flatwings, hairwings, shrimp flies, worm flies, crease flies, poppers, mylar minnows, other synthetic flies....and a few 'experemints' that just make my shake my head when I see them in the tackle box. Strange that now I enjoy the tying almost as much as the fishing. |
I have tyed flat wings, I try to follow Ken Abrames instructions :smash: But I must say they look half good.
Bye the way, the fly swap is complete, Stop by the SB.com booth at the MSBA show and see the results and maybe buy some raffle tickets Quote:

Ken is the guy who got me into tying flatwings in the first place. Last year I learned from him that he grew up just 5 minutes away from where i've lived all my life......and just a short walk from where my mother grew up (It's a small world, RI)
I went to the library a couple years back and rented out a couple striper fishing books. Ken's Striper Moon was one of them. I almost crapped myself when I opened it up and found it loaded with pictures of places right near my home......places I'd drive by year after year never having any clue to the history in those places & the good fishing that still exists there. I enjoy tying the simplier flatwing & hairwing, but some of the more complicated flies take awhile for my to tye. (the razzle dazzle takes about an hour for me to tye) The only thing i dont do on the flatwings is the jungle cock for eyes......$100 for a patch is way too expensive for me. |
