the next hundred years

So just started reading this book by George Friedman and was wondering if anyone here has read this as well? Also wondering what everyone else's views/perdictions are on the next 100 years for the U.S. where are we going to be what are the war perdictions ect ....Who do you think is going to challenge the U.S. as far as millitary?

Nebe 09-22-2010 10:29 PM

China will want it's money back at some point. ;)

Yes but do they have enough organization to get it back?

it all depends on technology usage i think

when you read as much as i do about
miniaturization of electronics....

development of nano technology particularly

carbon based materials ten to twenty times stronger than steel
and much lighter by a long shot...

it's going to change everything....

but it'll take a large combination of new battery
and power storage... technology
some that hasn't even been invented yet

leaving the ground ...is the main thing...
no more rolling around on rubber tires

....in the future that will be as laughable
then as a "horse and buggy" is to us now with modern advances
at the present stage of Automobiles ....is today.

they've been saying that for 40 years. Need a significant disruption in the corportate culture for that to happen. Like a genetic bug that eats all oil or anythng based on it. Otherwise, our kids will be driving combustion engines using oil

dean kamien' prius with a sterling engine for generation that burns any carbon based product, has gone no where.
Biofuel tax incentives has lapsed causing the largest producers to close in the midwest

Read Reich's new book

I think it's only a matter of time before we are forced to put up or shut up when it comes to the China-Taiwan situation. Then there are the conflicts that will come out of colonizing the moon and who owns the rights to resources on the moon, also a major topic of concern between US and China.

striperman36 09-23-2010 09:10 AM

Let's talk about who going to exploit the Artic first. that could become a major touch point very soon

RIJIMMY 09-23-2010 09:27 AM

Here it is, and it aint pretty.

1. America becomes a second rate world power in both wealth and military(ex. See England 200yrs ago compared to now)
2. Americans lose their core values due to over-sensitivity. We become a nation of nothing since something always insults someone. The attempts at becoming more multi-cultural hands the keys over to radical extremists who do not value others opinions, religions, or freedoms. (think about what you already CANT do - try burining a Koran or drawing a cartoon!)
3. Americans rely on the government for the majority of their sustenance (see Rome 2000 yrs ago). All products are imported, work is outsourced.
4. The current 3rd world will now have the technology, education and manpower to demand world resources. Prices will skyrocket and these countries will continue to benefit from US outsourcing.
Its all happening as we speak, its in the works. The days of post-WWII prosperity are OVER.

one thing that people are not thinking of....

is hidden history underneath the ice...

discoveries of unimaginable importance

inaccessible for a thousand years...

and i'm not talking about ANY mineral resources

i'm Sure, i sound much like Edgar CASEY :grins:

the huns were at the doors of Rome for hundreds of years, Rome paid them off, hired them to fight some wars for them. How did that work out for them? Sound familiar? Aid to PAkistan, India, Somalia, etc.
Like it or not, the loudest voices in the world, the ones causing the most noise are the radicals. They dont stand for freedom, they dont stand for equal rights, religious tolerance, cultural tolerance, none of that. They are growing all over the world. We are shrinking.

Supplies required to manufacture Xanax, Prozac and other like crap are no longer available. Society is forced to accept life as it should be, like it was for thousands of years . People everywhere "toughen up",politically correct right wing moon bats are no longer folk heros and politicians.....sounds like a fantasy land to me...

If you want a fun quick read, pick up George Friedman's The Next 100 years

Amazon.com: The Next 100 Years: A Forecast for the 21st Century (9780385517058): George Friedman: Books

He talks about how US domination of the oceans is an unwritten cornerstone of our policy to command the global economy.

RIJIMMY wouldn't like the book. It paints a quite positive vision of the future that conflicts with his dark and pessimistic outlook of what America's full potential really is.

Our potential is limitless, our courage to obtain it is what is lacking.

" ALIEN INTERVENTION "

you cannot rule this out.......

of course .....

then ....everyone argues about how long it'll take
for them to travel a trillion light years-> and all that...

But this doesn't apply when you can travel
from another dimension in time.

or travel from one dimension to another.

the most ancient of :point: all languages ...
in every case ....translates the word "god"
in the plural sense....

translated it means: :uhuh:

"those that came from space"

Probably not in the next 100 yrs but won't need transportation vehicles: "Beam me up, Scotty", just watch out for flys in the chamber.

The Navy is 14 billion in the RED in Fiscal 2010. The doctrine has the Air Force ruling the skys over sea and air.
There is no other major Navy, we just need to escort our commercial fleet through the areas of international piracy which seems to be every but where the Navy is.

Nebe 09-23-2010 03:48 PM

I think we will see more of this-

If you had read the book you'd understand why this is true.

Freidman's point isn't that it's Navy doctrine. If you're heading from the base to Mansfield, I'm probably right on your way...feel free to stop by and I'll loan you my copy of the book.

No, it's a book by someone who doesn't write Navy doctrine, but who does have credibility on the subject of predicting future events.

The Navy bit is but a small part of the book.

Last Days Of The U.S. Empire?

The global financial markets were startled this week when Brazilian oil giant Petrobras sold an astonishing $70 billion worth of stock in the largest stock sale in history. Petrobras will use the money to fund aggressive offshore drilling--the kind that is being hotly debated in the U.S. after the Gulf oil spill.

The Petrobras sale follows other huge stock sales by gigantic international companies, such as the IPO of the Agricultural Bank of China, which was the largest ever.

Compared to these offerings, the upcoming $20 billion IPO of American automotive giant GM seems almost quaint. And this is symbolic of America's changing place in the world.

The US economy is still the world's largest, but the gap is closing. Many think that, in another decade or two, China will surpass the United States to become the largest economy in the world.

As the U.S. tries to clamp down on business, meanwhile--re-regulating industries like Wall Street that many blame for the Great Recession--the rest of the world is charging ahead. As we discuss banning offshore drilling for our oil companies, Petrobras et al, drill instead. As we outlaw stem-cell and other biotech research on moral or safety grounds, Chinese companies make the breakthroughs instead. And so on.

None of this means the "end" of America, of course. The "British Empire" has been in decline for a century now, and Britain's doing just fine. But it's certainly symbolic of the country's changing place in the world.

read this

15 Signs The US Is Losing Its Influence In The Western Hemisphere

whos to blame?
- the rush to regulate and demonize business, including wall st
- americas desire to help everyone, we need "america first!"
- americas lack of a business friendly climate, too many taxes and red tape
- we're just plain lazy and if we keep having more and more policies that allow people to feed off the workers and the people taking risk, we will continue down this rat hole
- liberalism and political correctness are ruining us. we spend too much time worrying about who we will offend. we need to think we're better, believe were better and act like we're better. Bowing before others weakens us.
