Skiff building?
 

Has any one on here built a skiff before? I a considering building a 16ft skiff over the winter to fish some spots i cant get into by my boat. Want something with alot of freeboard, andcan handles some chop if need be. Any suggestions?

the plywood stitch and glue method with epoxy and fiberglass cloth and tape works very well and makes a super strong light boat

For years now I've wanted to build a PH16. It looks so easy, but with all those bulkheads.... I take it back... Not easy. Maybe after I finish my Airstream...

Boat works great! There's a pile of wood in front of it, keeping me from using it. Also trying to finish the vinal siding on the house. Stop by some time and have a beer....

fire wood or old lumber

When Earl was approaching I thought it would be a good idea to cut down my cherry tree before it fell on my boat. So, I asked my neighbor if I could borrow his bucket truck and chain saw and lopped down the major branches. Since he let me use his equipment I told him he could have the wood. I purposely put the wood in front of the boat. Knowing that the false albacore would slow my projects down considerably...

SRT - Sorry about pirating the thread, I agree with Slipnot Beateu is a good choice and they have a great forum with a lot of knowledgeable builders.

Check out the 15' Diablo from Harold Payson. I think it is one of the better looking do it yourself set of plans around. I have the plans and will some winter build it for me...I mean the kids....

I have been slowly picking away at an FS17 from Bateau over the past 3 years. I spoke with Slip a great deal before pulling the trigger. The build has been a TON of fun. I'm actually really enjoying it. In my opinion nothing is overly difficult it just takes time. I'm only able to work on it in the evenings and occasionally on the weekends. I will admit though that it has taken much longer than I originally figured. I'm not sure what your current situation is (in other words...how much time you have) but to build one in one winter might be difficult. Just keep that in mind. With that said though...the process is half the fun. I love going out in the garage at night, turning the radio on and having at it. Plus you get to build it exactly as you want it. Anyway...feel free to ask any questions. I'm no expert, but have been living it for 3 years!

One of these days I'm going to start a thread and show the build. I have a ton of pictures and have been asked by numerous people to see them. Might be a good winter thing to do.

it will automatically loft the panels for you. It's a lot of fun.

I've made many test models using this software in hopes to someday make the real thing.

Check out this link to the woodenboat forum on building a Brockway skiff. Great thread on building a nice design that does not require a lot of experience. A lot of good advice on this site and some great reading..
