Taunting me.....

Lost what would have been my biggest fish ever, today. Right at the side of the boat. Gaff in hand. Pop. Hook comes out. 20 minute battle. Knew it was a good one before I got a look at her.... beautiful pink and purple as I was bringing her boatside....

A couple fish and macks later, I'm bringing in a 29" fish, and what do I see following right beneath it? What I have to believe was the fish I lost. Better look this time... Had to be over 50".

So tomorrow, despite the Pats game, I will be back there for the outgoing.... hopefully with live macks again.

BigFish 09-25-2010 04:30 PM

"Better to have hooked up and lost....than never to have hooked up at all!":uhuh:

Bummer Ross! Hope you get her tomorrow!!

PRBuzz 09-25-2010 04:38 PM

I want to catch a big striped bass.

Another victim is hooked..........

iamskippy 09-25-2010 06:15 PM

pro responces! :lama: not even going to try and top them!

ProfessorM 09-25-2010 06:17 PM

Sorry Ross. I think every year for the past 6 or 7 , including this year i have lost a very large fish either boat side or after a long tug of war. They don't get big being unlucky. Good luck seeing if you can get her again. It is what gets you coming back for more. As Max Smart would say "missed it by that much"

tattoobob 09-25-2010 07:08 PM

Bummer Ross, I hate that feeling of emptiness you get right after and for about a month later

SurfCaster413 09-25-2010 07:12 PM

Sorry to hear give em hell tomorrow.

Raven 09-25-2010 08:16 PM

Finaddict 09-25-2010 08:44 PM

You'll have to catch another 29 incher and then live line that to get the bigguns' attention ... go get 'em/her

piemma 09-26-2010 04:44 AM

Happened to me in the canal Thursday night/Friday morning. 100 yard run chasing as I could not stop her. Tightened the drag and palmed the spool. Pop. Yellow danny came back with 2 tines on a 4/0 4X VMC Treble straightened.

A moose. I was stopping and landing 30#+ fish that night without a problem. This fish was much bigger.

There will be others, I am sure.

ross - Bummer........how did Sunday go?

I hit the reef last night.....no love.

fishbones 09-27-2010 10:10 AM

You hooked it, so you're doing things right. Now it's just a matter of getting back out there and doing it again. Good luck!

A couple of years ago, I was fishing with my dad and we were doing well with high teen, low twenty pound class fish. The bite slowed for a bit, then my dad hooked up with a small fish about 26". All of a sudden, he yells "holy bleep" and I looked over to see a huge fish leaving a wake behind it following the small bass to the boat. I thought it was a shark, but as it got closer we both realized it was the biggest bass we ever saw. It nailed the smaller bass and knocked it off the plug, then took off. We couldn't figure out if it was trying to take the plug from the small fish, or eat the small one. After that, the bite died.

Rockport24 09-27-2010 01:01 PM

that sucks Ross, you'll get her one of these days!

good to hear big fish in the area... not that I get out anymore.

Sunday had no fishing on the schedule..... due to a phone call I got Sat night just before 9pm. I ended up driving down to Mansfield (Comcast Center, Toby Keith concert) with another parent to retrieve our 16 and 17 y/o daughters from the security paddock.... underage open container violation......:fury::fury::fury: Mine was the 17 y/o. so is considered an arrest......

Ross,
Bigger tragedy is daughter. For name of God
don't loose her. Ross you are 1 in 100 and
deserve both that 50 and a dance at her wedding.
God bless. :soon:

I'm sure she learned her lesson, but what kind of a #^&#^&#^&#^& cop is gonna bust a 17 y/o girl for drinking? Drugs, maybe.... but, what she was drinking a beer along with 10 thousand others? I mean c'mon!

Whoa,my son went to a show there with a couple friends and got a ride with an older (17)sister of one of the friends. We know the family well and made sure she knew she was responsible for her passengers. Yup, she got thrown in the drunk tank and we got the same phone call. WTF,I understand kids like to get buzzed but this is truly bad judgement. What a way to learn a lesson.....

Matt, it ain't like it was when I was their age. The law is 21 and after those two girls got killed driving back from Countryfest last year, there is no tolerance at these venues with big tailgating facilities. The cops were very fair. Actually gave the kids a second chance to enjoy the show after dumping the mixed drinks they had in the car, and told them to go into the concert area, ie. get out of the lot . That was at 4:30.... They got bored, roamed the same parking lot and started partying with other groups.... The cops came up and the two of them had a beer in their hands. The cops even said to them,"You're kidding me, right? We gave you the chance of a lifetime and you blew it." The kids don't get it, and my two have 3+ years to go. She is still pissed because she "only" had less than two drinks, and doesn't get why she was arrested for that.:smash: And she couldn't go to the show.... Gee... lemme think about that for a minute......:wall: Maybe her summons will wake her up to the reality and the seriousness of her actions. All I can say to you Matt is enjoy the infant, baby, toddler stages. It goes by fast, and gets much more challenging.

The other girl with my daughter was the driver.... and she looked rough when we got there. WTF were they thinking. After driving through the lots to get the others to their car, I will not let my kids go there unsupervised. Disgusting. Trash, cups, broken glass/bottles, overurned grills everywhere. Had to wash the car as there was puke in the wheelwells. (When I went there for Brooks and Dunn, we sprang for the VIP lot, and now know what a good decision that was.)

Thanks, John. I'm just another parent trying to get their kids to become solid citizens.......Can't ever quit on them, but they do challenge me sometimes. And I could wait another ten years or more for that dance....

...wow...not looking forward to those days...challenging for sure!

Finaddict 09-28-2010 09:43 PM

I've been trying to brainwash my daughter to get her against boys, alcohol and drugs (actually have not started on the alcohol and drugs thing yet) ... as she's only 5, but the boys are the big one and candy too ...

Tonight there was a public service broadcast on the radio as we were driving home about the problems of Tweens and Teens drinking alcohol and how it impairs development and causes death ... we listened to it.

After I asked her what she thought about the message. She did not understand it, as to be expected, but she did ask about it. When I told her what the message meant, she said, "I hate alcohol, mommy gave me a rootbeer float and I did not like it."

Still, if I can get it ingrained in her subconscious, maybe she won't consider it in 10 years.

Rockport24 09-29-2010 11:15 AM

Yeah I hear ya guys, and I will enjoy the time I have with my daughter now cause this stuff really scares the hell out of me!

The drinking and driving thing is really scary with underage kids, I mean hell, it's scary with older adults!

At least they cops gave her a second chance and were fair about it. Geez, things are now a lot different from when I was that age, which aint THAT long ago. I remember partying down there was I was 18 with no problems from the cops at all.
