Ocean Sunfish on the Tube at Scorton
3 Attachment(s)
Anybody know if this thing could have actually chased down and eaten the tube? I couldn't believe it but it was actually hooked in the corner of the jaw.
Had to chase it with the boat for half an hour before we even saw it. I thought the paint was going to bubble on my reel. |
Very cool catch! Even better that you got pics of it too....
|
They eat jelly fish. I'd guess the line crossed its mouth and it got snagged. Cool catch either way.

Sunfish... the fat, lazy American's of the sea.

I guess this means you've never been to the Bible Belt. Obesity in America pretty well correlates with conservative voting. Fat people, southern WalMart - skinny people, northern Starbucks. |
Please explain California then...

It's a Sunfish thread but Cracker barrel does has it's share of Sunfish. 12.4 of Californian's are Sunfish. Nevada and Michigan are the only states with more Sunfish percentage wise..

Defiantely snagged. There were 4 there Saturday. I ran my lines right over one by accident.
Glad I didn't get lucky like you... |

Wow that is quite the catch. I agree snagged. Here is how close I got to one last week in 25 feet of water along Sandy Neck. I think it was sick because it didn't even try to dive down or run away. Just stayed right there. Also ran into this beast too in close a week before.

They eat jellyfish. It's not all that uncommon for springtime shark fishermen to catch them when the jelly combs pile up on the leader/hooks. They do put up a hell of a fight. They are not afraid of boats in the least, they sometime swim right up next to the boat when we are drifting for sharks. They love to have the back scratched with a deck brush!

That's amazing. great to have pics.
|
LOL. that was great. I have a friend that does stuff just like that, never a dull moment.

|

sorry for the thread hijack :smash: |
Profe we hooked that shark i think . It pounded a swim shad right off sandyneck and then booted. We got it to the boat an cut the line after a 20 minute fight. It was a huge brown shark.
|
that was a 20 foot basking shark I am pretty sure. It was about 5 foot around.

We hooked up a mola couple months back trolling live macs. Skippy grabbed the rod with the reel screaming and thought he had his striper of a life time, I looked back and saw the mola fly about 4-5ft out of the water at which time it threw the hook. Glad we did not have to turn and chase, nice clean C&R.
