Wind Whine-WTF

WTF is up with this wind this year. It just never wants to seem to lay down, even at night. It is gonna bounce around for the next few nites and SMOKE from every which direction. Can't even "adapt to the conditions". New moon coming and a few tournaments this weekend and it is all gonna be a waste. The last hoorah is gonna pass us by.....again
Motha F'n Nature needs to chill the f out.:bc:

JackK 10-07-2010 10:00 AM

It seems to have finally laid down up near me. I had forgotten what the sun looked like

redlite 10-07-2010 10:02 AM

Still no sun here in Brock-Vegas.

If anyone happens to know where the switch for the wind machine is, mind shuttin' it off, or even better unpluggin' it.

STREETFIGHT 10-07-2010 10:42 AM

it finally fell down to managable mid week and things lit up down this way- im off for the next week starting tonight :jump1:

Fishoholic 10-07-2010 10:48 AM

Last night was brutal... whole lotta "professional over-runs" trying to cast an eel into that %$%$%$%$.. At least there are still lot's of fun sized fish around. Hope the bite keeps up for the weekend.. I'm thinking I might do my first contest. Hey it's for a good cause :)

Might turn into a bucktail fall,,,:uhuh:

WESTPORTMAFIA 10-07-2010 12:32 PM

Mike I'm sure you will figure it out. I'm sure the wheels are turning. Hope to see at least a few decent fish in the Back Eddy.

Saltheart 10-07-2010 12:39 PM

Sometimes the wind is our friend....sometimes....

Vogt 10-07-2010 01:52 PM

Im already missing those hard northerly winds that we just had. They treated me very well.

BasicPatrick 10-07-2010 05:29 PM

Wind has completelyt ruined our two weeks at The Derby. What a waste.

same here. Coming back around tomorrow, but will the fish pop back up?

Liv2Fish 10-07-2010 08:09 PM

Fished scorton hard tonight - the entire shoal. I was shocked to have the place to myself. It's October people!! Can't be afraid of a little wind!

Wind was screaming from the WNW and there were still 5' rollers from all the NE blows we had. Marked very few fish - caught a few average blues but nothing brown. Water was still very stirred up - looked like chocolate milk. Tough fishing - better than no fishing.

Adam_777 10-07-2010 08:17 PM

I went out for a little while at daybreak.Picked up my first 50.50 pounds of red seaweed.Fought pretty good.I got the entire 30 feet of it to the shore line without breaking my custom g.loomis rod and vs250 with power pro line.I am becoming one with the seaweed migration.

striperman36 10-07-2010 09:05 PM

the wind has been onshore almost all summer building large swells as the wind increases over longer distances of clear water
We never really got the classic bermuda and Canadian highs blocking significant weather over New England.

As we all have seen the long term weather pattern has been steering moisture up the coast and various lows have brought the moisture over New England all summer. It also has fortunately steered all hurricanes away from the coast as they were pushed off to the east of the high level currents.

I hope this will not be the continued situation for this winter as we'll be getting quite pummeled with snow.

Rockfish9 10-08-2010 08:11 AM

If we all think it sucks now.. wait until that white crap starts falling... this could be an UGLY winter...This weather pattern has me concerned.. somewhere/some day we will have to pay for that dry hot summer we had...

I've dealt with the wind as best I could and have no complaints..... unfortunaly, the river has been either white hot or ice cold.. you just have to fish eavry night to hit it..... the beach front has been hot in places, unfortunatly unsafe in a small boat and in accessable from terra firma...it stll beats sitting home watching the tube...

bassballer 10-08-2010 08:15 AM

Wind sucks. Really putting a damper on my motivation

JackK 10-08-2010 08:23 AM

It laid down this AM real good, but the fish weren't there... Perfect spook weather, managed one small but very fat keeper, but other than that it was a desert.

Should be manageable tonight, pretty much staying out of the west at ~ 10 kt... If the weatherman is telling the truth...

Ummmm, maybe good up on the "other cape" but weather for Westport Point, Today WSW wind 20 to 30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH-----Tonite wind W 10-20 MPH---ALL IN MILES PER HOUR, not KNOTS-----and I usually find I need to expect at least 5MPH additional to what they say once actually at the water........SMOKIN'==Almost tropical storm strength====and the surf last nite was already MONSTOUROUS, only gonna get worse.
Sat nite- NW wind 12 MPH with a low of 43....Brrrrrrrrr.

JackK 10-08-2010 08:47 AM

I was actually looking at the Newport forecast... Guess I looked at the wrong one though, W 10-15, gusts to 20 tonight... Yuck

Might be busting out the 7 mil and the warm thermos for Saturday

piemma 10-08-2010 10:57 AM

It was blown about 15knts SW from when I got to the Ditch (3:00 AM) to when I left (7:00 AM).

WESTPORTMAFIA 10-08-2010 02:53 PM

Mike try fishing with a reel that doesn't scare the fish and everything within a mile radius. That might help a bit. :rotf2:

EricW 10-08-2010 04:28 PM

I do a lot of freshwater fishing and it has been bad for that too.
I remember a lot of days this summer getting blown around.
Wind would usaully die out around 4-5 pm in the past, but this year it was just windy all the time it seems....
Almost got blown off the lake today. Went out for some trout andn it was brutal. Tomorrow looks windy too.

Coming back in from Scorton on Thursday, I marked clouds of bait from the first green all the way up to the basin - and some fat marks down deep too. I couldn't get out at all friday - good tides this week end though. See you down there....

nightfighter 10-09-2010 03:08 PM

Was able to get 20+ macks this morning. But the wind kept building....Boat was drifting +2 knots, in the harbor... Hoping to use them on outgoing tomorrow afternoon, if the wind dies just a little bit. I have 17-22 steady at the house, with gusts to 32. Sucks. Beach tonight with wind mostly behind us.

Zeal 10-09-2010 05:02 PM

Long Island has been getting hammered with all the storms and wind so I share your frustration. Each day has been a steady 15+ knots without any way of adapting. Tons of weed and the water level is so high that the inlets are literally overflowing.

Definitely starting to believe that it is going to be a bucktail season, need to get my hands on a black bucktail :(

Shinnecock was 5+ foot standing around noon today.

Some people are certainly suicidal.

I don't think 5oz would have held bottom the way it was on outgoing.

Justfishin' 10-10-2010 08:32 AM

Got back from BI last night, wind driven surf muddied up the water pretty bad. Settled out a little first light yesterday morning for a couple of hours, then mucked up again. Fishin was pretty damn slow and the wind was just relentless- my ears are actually sore from it.

redlite 10-10-2010 07:16 PM

So it lays down for ONE night, and its back. Go down to check water before I make the drive over to the place I crushed them last night, and as dan and I are sitting in my truck with it rocking in the wind that is blowin a solid 15 to 20 mph, the weather says it is 6....meathead weather people I tell ya...well, gonna hang it up for a night. at least I got a one nite reprieve.

striperman36 10-11-2010 10:35 PM
