plugs on a plane...
 

heading to miami this weekend and thinking about bringing my gear...anybody know if you can bring plugs as a carry-on or do you have to check them?

I asked Dani, and she said check them, unless you are looking to be strip searched. BOS is still considered a high risk airport.

I took some down on united recently and they never even looked at them. I actually mailed them down but got lazy on the way back up and rolled the dice. I walked right through with 2 plano boxes full without being stopped.

Couples years ago United website inferred to check tackle (hooks). I've never done hooks/tackle but they looked briefly on the scanner at my reel in my carryon and laughed.

...yeah, would like to try and carry them on and then check them if i cant but dont want to get them taken...which has happened with other things such as sunblock...

airlines are ambiguous and tsa is even more ambiguous...

i'd check them....don't matter what the airline tells you. It's up to the clown in tsa. And if you have to check it at that point your at the end of the line again.

take the hooks off, check those, then carry-on just the wood.

Check them ... as for the rod(s) that you may bring, I'd be careful about packing rods through Miami airport ... a number of years ago, I was coming back from Miami - had four fly rods (all top of the line) and two custom plug sticks stolen after I checked the rod tube in with the airline, more than $2000-$2500 worth of rods stolen, that never showed up on the other end. When I lived in Miami, there was always news reports about theft taking place in the airport, along with drugs ... as a result ... when I travel with gear, I always fed ex a tube to the destination, refuse to lose that gear again ... didn't get even close to have back for them, only about a quarter of their worth, a huge loss ... so be careful ... or you may have to buy a new rod.

I would recommend checking them. Going to fish in Ireland I lost a few plugs I had in my carry on.

Ballyhoo and mullet being chased up and down the beach as I write this...shoulda brought the gear!
