Masonry!!!

Putting up a brick wall in the Man-Cave as a type of decorative firewall for my soon to be hooked up wood stove! Have a pile of old brick I got from a friend awhile ago to give it that "Been Here Forever" look!! Any-who........I have to admire brick layers!!! They must have to work lightning fast to keep their pile of mortar from drying out while they work???!! I am only mixing a quarter bag at a time and its still not fast enough!!!:wall: Thats a real craft for sure and they do amazing work!!!:uhuh:

BTW-Anyone have experience installing wood stoves and will work for plugs??!:rotf2:

I'll come over and help move it in place for a plug or two!

installed a few in my day

your exit hole i assume is thru the wall....yes?

so you have purchased a double walled metal sleeve
for the stove pipe to go thru i'd imagine to insulate the heat
from making contact with the wood ...

or is your plan to go straight up.... that doesn't
make the best use of the heat....but

your building though is fairly small so not really an issue.

above the stove you need some sheet rock or metal
and you need to have it inspected.

Larry, mortar should be somewhat dry. At least not wet like cement. Otherwise you will have to wait for hours to point your joints. Do you have the premixed with sand, or do you have to add sand to it? It is available both ways. I hope you are using aluminum ties every couple of courses to hold it up to the wall you are bricking to.... saw a guy cutting up beer cans as he finished them to make the ties.... And wet the bricks before setting them so they don't suck the water out of the mortar before it cures .Let's see soom in progress pics. Have fun.

Got all that covered Ross thanks so much! I will take a pic tomorrow. Doing the ties every 4 courses I think?? Got cement board behind it!! Its a garage Raven so high ceiling......there will be no need above for sheetrock or metal. Code is 3 feet from any combustible.

A new category of plugs, 'BigFish Smoked Baits', is coming soon...
