Connecticut River Striper seminar

next tuesday, April 1, i will be giving a seminar on fishing the spring striper run on the CT river. i will be covering topics from safety on the river to gear to how to read the river and apply this to increasing your success. the seminar is free to all. it is sponsored by the Hartford chapter of the CCA, and you do not need to be a CCA member to attend. there will be raffles of gear pertaining to the river. most of my talk will be directed towards fishing from shore, but a lot of the topics can be applied to boating.

here is a link to the meeting announcement including driving directions on the CCA-CT website. CCA-CT MEETING the meeting is held at the Bissell Tavern in Windsor CT. it is about 20 minutes south of springfield, and about 15 minutes north of hartford.

on another note, the CCA-CT hartford chapter is currently working on our 4th anual spring catch and release tournament you will be able to sign up for the tournament at this meeting, as well as gain some valuable help for fishing the tourney.

this is always a very popluar meeting, so show up early! feel free to ask any questions about this seminar, and i hope to see some of you at the meeting.

Good luck Toby - I'll try to make it but Boston to Hartford in 2 hours at rush hour... :bo:

I really would be interested in that one too....

tlapinski 03-25-2003 08:09 AM

John, i hope to see you. i forgot to say, the seminar starts at about 7pm. i will stay as late as needed. i would rather stay all night and answer all questions, than have anybody leave unhappy! i will have posters of pictures i have taken of the enfield dam at different water levels to show the many different conditions we face on the river. also, fellow s-b member wahlie, chris wahl, will be helping me. between us, we have close to 20 seasons of combined experience on the river.

fishweewee 03-25-2003 08:13 AM

Hope I can make it up. Rush hour traffic to Hartford can be quite ferocious.

tlapinski 03-25-2003 08:20 AM

yeah, weewee, i hear ya! i have to deal with springfield traffic heading down to the meetings. not as bad, but i go through at about 5pm for the board meetings. you should be able to get through hartford ok after 6pm. it usually starts to lighten up after that. even if you came through hartford at 6:30, you would still make it on time. hope to see you!

Bliz 03-25-2003 11:50 AM

Sounds like a great evening!

If I get the go ahead from my better half, is there anyone who would like to travel down with me?...

Jenn 03-25-2003 12:30 PM

hmm...chance to hear you talk about stripers and the river???? I am going to try my best to get there!;)

tlapinski 03-25-2003 02:42 PM

Jenn - i still owe you a trip to the holyoke dam that i promissed you last fall. don't worry, i didn't forget. :D

Gloucester2 03-25-2003 02:55 PM

Toby - I'm still looking forward to it . . . have you seen the River!

Spring melt is in full force . . . the landing in Springfield is under water big time. Won't be long now.

wahlie 03-25-2003 03:20 PM

Toby and I have got some great things to discuss at the meeting next week. Topics such as
Safety when wading/fishing the river
gear(not much different from your surf gear)
techniques on how to fish the river
what water types to look for
tackle
and several other things. It's sure to be a very informative get together. There will be some awesome raffle prizes as well.

blood, we've got a lot of content to discuss.. I'd say atleast 1 hour presentation. We will have some very informative banners/boards for people to look at to show the enfield dam at low and high water as well as some great holes that hold fish at the dam... The raffles will be great and we will have ledgerunners to give away. check out
www.ccact.org and click on meetings for directions. Hope to see you all there. It will be worth the trip.
