Log Book Data
Guys,
It's only been the last couple of years that I've become fanatical about the "science" behind consistency and started meticulously logging every trip. I've been logging: Date Location Time of day Bass caught Daylight status Tide stage (or current turn) moon phase Barometer over 24 Hrs prior Tactics I recently put this data in a spreadsheet and looked for consistencies, and have seen some fairly significant trends. I'm curious as to what others are capturing? |
I think the conditions the day before you find fish have as much to do with your success as the conditions the day you do.

i agree numbskull, maybe a little further then that, i know wind conditions current and water temp play a huge roll in the setup.

for me it's whether or not I have my lucky shirt on...if I don't wear it the fishing will suck, if I do wear it fishing is great. I have proven this time and time again. It has nothing to do with weather, tides, moon phase wind or sunspot activity...its all about fashion.:)
When I give up fishing I plan to sell my lucky shirt on ebay.:) |

Read Daignault first book. He talks about trends and consistency. Of course there are trends. The big tides have more current speed. Bait gets pushed around more. When do the big tides come? Full and new moons.
SW wind in SoCo good? of course it is. It pushes the bait inshore. Beginning of NE wind good? Sure, before the water weeds up there is a ton of bait getting pushed inshore. I wouldn't give you the spot but Nebe knows. NE wind, tide high at midnight in June on the new moon and I will almost guarantee you a 30# fish. Every year for the last 30+ years this spot has always producted. |
SW wind in SOCO last night was DEFINITLEY not good... if it was, I wouldnt be on a computer right now...
I do keep a detailed log for the last 3 seasons. Location time fished at each location tide, wind, moon Conditions Weather that day TIME(s) that fish were caught Lure used and a space for notes to write down any specifics of the day to make sense of it later. I made the page myself, then photocopied it a bunch of times and made a book... it has a lot of character... I prefer a physical book to an electronic log... While i like the idea of making quick charts and things like that to make quick comparisons, I feel that if I'm not smart enough to put 2 and 2 together on my own from my own notes, i don't deserve to catch fish as a result. In addition, i like the idea of owning a book that I can open and look at and still reference 10 years from now. Wow... only 34 years old and I'm already sounding old and anti-technology! *not knocking any electronic log, it would be cool to have both. |
