EPA denies petition to ban lead
|
MOST EXCELLENT
"Robertson further said, “Increases in the cost of recreational fishing would stop many anglers from enjoying the sport. The resultant decrease in fishing license sales and the federal manufacturers’ excise tax on fishing tackle, which represent the two most important funding sources for fisheries conservation, would be a large setback for fish and wildlife managers and this country’s natural resources.”" I called this before. Now if they'd just start going after all the under the table bull%$%$%$%$ we'd all be better off. |
Most excellent - and many thanks for the update, was actually going to look for that this morning,

Great unexpected news. Maybe common sense is making a come back
|
i'm surprised.....
|
I am relieved. I have had my fill of tree huggers. I actually got the news from my RFA NEWS ALERT but couldn't find it on their site.
I am happy for YOU Salty and the rest of my plug making friends :uhuh: |
I gotta think there is something that can replace lead at around the same price.
|
NOTHING. Bismuth is the closest and it's 16x the cost.

This denial is excellent news. An all out ban is ridiculous, especially considering what they are trying to accomplish - preventing the ingestion of lead by birds. With that in mind, there would have been fewer pissed off people and more support behind a reasonable restriction that was something like a ban on lead fishing weights under 1oz. I'm feeling a little uncomfortable though... a government agency made a correct decision and based that decision on reason?!? |
Ya I sure woud like to see a bird fly off with a 4 0z. pyramid sinker.
I stil can't see why a coating of some sort wouldn't work. Does lead seep through rubber or plastic? It would be easy enough to dip weights. PaulS.- Another reason lead is widely used is because it can be melted at a low temp. I can pour my own weights on my kitchen counter or in the garage. The pros for lead simply outweigh the cons, as long as we are not destroying the enviroment. BUT........I do foresee a "STUDY" in the future. They never give up. |
good

I'll take my tungsten bead heads back tomorrow
|
Nice! Common sense. Money sense. Fish sense. ....whatever. I'll take it. :)
(Now what do I do with those "green" sinkers?) |
