Season Highs and Lows!
 

Curious what the high point or crowning achievement of your season was and what the lowpoint or disappointments were?? Did you accomplish all you wanted to??? Or not?? Lets hear it!!:uhuh:

I made it home safe after each trip... that is the high light of EVERY season for me...every fish I catch is a bonus...

My highpoint was that I got to fish with almost everyone on my "I Want To Fish With....." list! Also fished with alot of great folks who were not on the list but was glad I got the opportunity to fish with so many fellow S-B'ers! I would say my favorite part of this season was getting so many fellow kayakers together and all of the fun trips we went on! Next season we will do many more!:uhuh: Best moment was getting my first striper from the yak and doing it doubled up with Tagger who was on his first as well! (That was fun Eddie!:uhuh:) The fact that it was a nice 22 pounder on one of my plugs really made it special as well!

My biggest disappointments for this season was, again, did not find the fish I was hoping to find. (Wait till next year):( The only person who was on my list that I did not get to fish with was Rockfish9 and it was not for lack of opportunity.....I was invited and I just could not make it as I had a certain tide I wanted to catch! Hopefully we will get that crossed off the list next season Joe!

I can't wait for next season already!:uhuh:

This year was pretty epic for me. I was able to break my PB from shore twice. Caught my first bass on one of my own plugs. Met a lot of good people this year and made several new great friends. Finally figured out how to jig the ditch. The only thing close to a low this year has been fall toggin from shore. I haven't been out much but when I have there wasn't much but "just under"s around. Still though..I can't complain :)

on the downside i did not trailer south as much as i would have liked - no funny fish, fluke or seabass trips sadly. but on the good side - i spent alot of time offshore. first year of sharking and that went well, hung around 60. got an early start on tuna and pounded groundfish all year. spent alot of time catching with the boy from shore so that was great. looking forward to a few more tog/tuna trips and then learning how to ice fish this winter

High point= 38# fish in a scary swell. Exciting and felt like an accomplishment.

Low point= Watching a 37# fish I caught and released float back in belly up.

Highs -
This year I took the kids for squid and had a blast
Learned how to fluke from a good guy on this board
Learned how to fish for blackfish and had a blast
Fished the canal more than ever, about 8 trips. Never caught a damn thing but saw a mola break the surface and saw some beautiful mornings. learned a few things by watching others
Lows -
I did not do a single thing right chasing stripers. Never got into any spring time top water action no matter how much water I covered.
Bunker bite never happened for me, had bait but couldnt get a bass.
Eels at night from July through Sept - very limited success. I did better in the past from shore
the wind in Sept and Oct kept me off the water a lot.
I blame myself, some guys had an incredible year, I went right, fish went left.
Past 3 seasons I had well over 100 bluefish without even trying, I just would run into them and kill an hour or so having fun. This year.....2 bluefish ALL SEASON.

Very disappointing year for me but you never learn anything if you are always successful. I have a bunch of new things to try out next year. Have to learn to fish deep off the reefs.

My highs:
I got to fish with my husband this year and I actually caught fish :love:.
I met and got to know a bunch of great guys during our Kayaking trips. Really fun!! :wiggle:
My lows:
Didn't catch any fish in my Kayak - next year :uhuh:

First high point was fishing with my son. Taking him to a pond near home teaching him how to cast accurately and far. Watching him make his first casts in the ditch, waking him up at 2am to go fishing. Being there watching him catch his first schoolie,then his first keeper (tough explaining why we had to let it go if it was a keeper). In short,nothing I've done compares to watching him develop. He has fished with a few guys here as well, more will meet him. On a personal note this is my first season really hitting it hard. Had some great days, PB of 40#, alot of blitzes. Had some terrible days injuries, couldnt tie a knot to save my life, etc. Fished with some great guys at the ditch, really want to get out in the surf next year. Overall greatful for the past year, and looking forward to many more.

High Points there were a few. Finally putting in some serious time on the Lower cape and catching fish many nights(thanks to a pointer from a friend) while I heard how bad the fishing was every morning from others.
Driving out on the beach with my wife setting her up in a chair on the beach and catching a blue on my first cast of the day. Her reaction
"OMG you really do know how to fish" I didn't tell her that catching blue fish is similar to going to a trout farm with a hand line and corn kernels. Not that she would know the difference between a trout and a bluefish.

Low point - There are no low points fishing eve when I got the skunk I was still happy to be out fishing.

my highpoint of the season was fishing the spring run with some good friends. this was my first season with a canal bike and now i can't imagine fishing the ditch without one. also, caught first ever tog from the shore and it was a keeper. thanks chef. would like to do more of that next year....

low point was not fishing as much as usual. missed a lot of action because I just didn;t have the drive. also, not having a canal bike for the second half of the season sucked.

Can't wait for the spring run. On a side note, chasing tail season just started for me and i'm already off to a good start :uhuh:

Highs: best cod fishing trip i've ever seen with 6 limits in about 3 hours, early season blue fin fishing where we had 2 nice hook-ups but, none landed, a best 3 fluke over 30" on board, a best seabass to nearly 6 pounds, 6 bass over 40 pounds, a yellowfin trip on a custom carolina boat where we boated 16 yellows in the 60# - 90# range, 5 tog over 10 pounds on board, fishing with a few friends I have always promised but never taken, learning some new techniques, JAWS blanks

lows: realizing, too late, this kind of fishing my dad had wanted to do besides striper fishing, my kids still don't like fishing or boating, 3 weeks vacation with 3 seperate motor problems each week, it's ending

highs: a couple 30#'s in august fishing alone. 1 during a noreaster on wood. another habby customer. :) makes me feel like i kind of know what i'm doing if i can produce without relying on someone else for information.

lows: a couple 30#'s in august fishing alone. takes the wind out of your sail if you've got noone to enjoy the moment with. parenthood made my schedule super restrictive this year.

High's: Taking my 3 year old daughter freshwater fishing and watching her catch her first Largemouth, Getting a new boat, Niko showing me the ropes on Sharking, Hooking up to my first tuna on my OWN boat, getting to know more guys on the site.

Low's: Wind in September, Getting my Dad sea sick, Loosing the first Tuna I hooked up to on my OWN boat, realizing I need a lot more gear.......

Highs: Breaking my personal best 4 times this, twice the same day on back to back cast at the ditch, thats one day I wont soon forget, watching my pb swim away, fishing with good reliable and knowledgeable people, My first trip to cutty, new friends, getting my boss his first striper which just happened to be a keeper, catching more fish more often, getting skunked less, good gear purchases, not fishing from a boat once, less nagging/compalining from the girlfriend.

Lows: dads health issues: fell 24 feet and compressed two discs and broke his arm, then recovered only to get lyme disease and be in and out of hospital for 4 months, losing what was probably the biggest fish of my life that night still haunts me, falling in newport hard. Building my own plugs which were duds.

Overall this was my best and most productive season ever. More fish than ever, more trips than ever, and more traveling to fish and new friends for the surf.

This has been a very good season to me, lots of large. The only low for the year really was not getting out as much as i would have liked. But the times i did go out were really good, except 5 trips in august. That was a tough month. If i had to pick a high it was a couple weeks ago on block. Got into some good fish, the fishing slowed down and had a good time hanging with the block island crew.

Larry, you were there for my high point so i don't need to rehash it...low point, leaving the beach two weeks ago before it blew up with fish in 40's
that hurt

Lows:
Not able to start fishing until Aug 1st due to work having me full time in DC for 4 mos.

Not being on the Bigfish must fish with list

Not catching a single bass over 20 lbs in the 6 weeks I actually did fish before the wind started up again.

Highs;
Fishing with PRBUZZ

Highpoint= Had a good season and caught many fish in the hot summer.

Lowpoints = Getting surgery to remove a bass spine from my foot 2 weeks after it entered my foot. And wiping my behind with a used slimy 8x8 inch eel rag.

I'll let you know, season ain't over! Still higher highs and lower lows possible.

Learning more and more about the canal and catching my personal best this September.
Lows- not getting out to Montauk this year.

High point was the best summer fishing in the Canal since I was a kid.

The low point was 9/18/2010. :(

Season isn't over but I've been in a low for 3-4 weeks now not getting out :wall:

High - my kid :kewl:

Low - have to agree with Mike. Hate that.

Highlights
1) Catching an Albie from shore, was a first for me
2) Getting to ring a 10# dinner bell while wearing a fire watch helm for breakfast at the bourne camp ground at 9am and waking people up
3) Getting my first ditch keeper striper - Pluggin
4) Getting my first ditch keeper striper - Jiggin
5) fishing the Haba for the first time with a pro angler ( niko )
6) increadable year for sunsets!
7) Learning a ton about the Ditch from Andy and watching his son fish, he was remarkable for his age.

Lowlights
cant think of anything that would be a low light the highlights shadow any and all the bad things that may have happen.

lows were 9/18, skunked on cutty in sept (first time ever), and not fishing with some friends...

High Point(s) for me were the quality time(s) spent with my father on the water this past season, giving him the opportunity to get his PB from my skiff, and then being mentally able to put the "Big Fish Hunt" aside and chase bottom fish with him. 'Continuing to see how we've exchanged roles, with me now constantly worrying about him while we're fishing, and me being the one trying to put him on fish and making that the focus of my trip. Being able to stop casting just to watch his expression the day we were sitting in my skiff TOTALLY surrounded by busting beauties. Watching him not know where to cast was hysterical...the laughs we shared were priceless. I am SO looking forward to next season as this one's gotten too cold for him now. Also looking forward to getting 3 generations in my skiff next year as well. Can that really be a "High" for this year?? I guess it does, because the thought continues to excite me. I can HONESTLY say, catching a 90# Bass tonight, would still fall 2nd to the time spent with him this past season. Enjoy your parents while you can.


Low Points,,,...1. Not making it to the Vineyard this year w/Rick and Milo, even though the fish were scarce, it's always a good time.:jump1: 2. Also missed fishing with my buddy Goose this year... :( ...hopefully we'll rectify that next year. 3. Going to numerous spots this year where I normally find solitude, only to find more people than the spot could handle...and blaming others for having a big mouth when it's really out of my control. 4. Typing this as if I'm done for the year....:devil2:...>>> :hs: >>>

Highs; Fishing on my boat with my grandson and my father. with my grandson getting a 32# on his own (a little coaching but it was all him). That was a most memorable day for all of us. Especially my Dad fishing with his great-grandson.
Kayaking/fishing with several excellent S-B'ers. Thanks for bringing us all together Larry. Looking forward to much more next season.

Lows; Not enough kayak fish and the ones I landed were all dinks.
Lousy fall fishing for me this year. Started out great, but really petered out for me after Labor Day.
