i have ten foot oak posts (free) going in for re- enforcements
raised tables going in for flats and potted plants a concrete block wall, i'll be arranging as a soil retention wall the plastic roll i bought with the structure and it was priced out at $200 available at Griffins greenhouse supply yes, growing food :uhuh: (getting way to expensive) the left half (lengthwise) is higher up than the right half which allows for colder air to drop down from the raised bed. it's also on a slope going down so i'll have natural "air flow" when it comes to ventilation in spring when it suddenly turns into a 90 degree day. as for winter storms.... i'm sure i'll be out there in the middle of the night for the few Nor Easters pulling down snow that doesn't wanna slide off. |

My BIL made a similar greenhouse heated with a horse manure/straw mixture in bins. The bins got to 180 degrees and warmed the whole thing. He started his plante at the end of February..

Still tons of work to do....:uhuh:
but i'll be dry instead of soaked :btu: * WHENS the last time you went to the GROCERY store and exclaimed; Wow the prices are Going DOWN ! $5 bucks for a loaf of bread....geeesch |
Craig that looks awesome. Been thinking about doing one attached to the back part of my garden. Friend down the street made his with 2 x 4's and it has held up nicely. I like the idea of how light yours is. Regardless of the sthreat of snow. Like Backbeach said, a mix of cow poo and straw goes a long way in the winter. But the thing is with that smell wise you don't want it attached to the house. Excellant job Craig.

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c6...nob1/Salad.png its not the only green house i built...i also built the glass house too where i'll start everything in flats i still have to work on the floor to get it flat inside. but its weather tight now! http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c6...owtowindow.png http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c6...efrontview.png i have some brush to get cleared out b4 it snows. These windows face EAST http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c6...1/sideview.png front windows facing south.......... http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c6...glassHouse.png i'm putting in a concrete block retaining wall for the raised bed where my left foot is... the whole length is say 6 feet by 75 feet long. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c6.../raisedbed.png the other half will have the typical tables for flats and potted plants The windstorm we had last night Blew the plastic right off so today .....i put my compressor into the wheel barrow and shot a CLEAT on both sides to kick it's ass. A very tough job to do solo with 15 mph wind i can assure you! but now i'm back on schedule AGAIN http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c6...1/Image3-1.png |

it's my (our) SAFETY NET
some people build BomB shelters I have created a food machine - LOL :uhuh: I don't (won't) trust the government to provide me (US) with food in the event of an emergency .... I trust the growers quality even less it's an ENERGY thing .....you cut it and eat it within minutes.... |

Nice work, Rav. :btu:
Would a roof or gutter heater tape strung along the center ridge support help to keep the top from icing up? |
Quote:
good idea Dave... i was wondering how liquid windshield silicon would adhere to the plastic as i have a gallon handy |
The tape runs about $1/ ft. Check out how safe it would be to warm the
plastic, even though you would mount it on the poly frame, it's used on asphalt shingles and metal gutters. Windshield wiper fluid would prolly work too, but a lot more hassel. :( |
