OMC labor costs

1 Attachment(s)
Finally found someone to completely rebuild my outdrive. Said it's gonna cost $1300 - more or less.

If I want it fixed, I have no choice but to pay....I'm just curious how fair it is...

1974 OMC I/O

Dude - if you are going to spend $1300 overhauling your existing drive, A N Y chance you can spend more and convert it to a mercruiser? I don't know all that's involved or really where to begin but you should make some calls & get some prices if the wallet allows...

$1300 does not seem bad - what's the warranty?

Here is some more:

What year & model outdrive??

Hey Bloo - Actually that seems pretty reasonable if it includes all the parts and a warranty.John has a good idea, but then you're talking trim pump, cylinders, transom assy, new cutout for transom.Could be expensive.
In the bargain news there is a 79 OMC completely rebuilt with paperwork -860-568 7991 - no price. And a guy with 4 OMC outdrives 203-264-0021 - no prices. You might want to check them out - it's easy to just bolt on a new leg.
Also there's a guy in Milford Ct, Jay's Outdrives who does nothing but rebuild outdrives and sell them - I bought an Alpha 1 form him once.He does real good work with a warranty.Don't know if he'll have an old OMC 203-878-9868.
Good luck, sharp looking boat!
Bill
P.S. Don't even think of doing it yourself, unless you're way better than me- those things are tricky, you have to get the gear shimming just right or it will self destruct.Like with my big fat a$$ brother skiing on the first day of vacation self destruct - If ya know what I mean!

Billybob - I did tell him previously to rip it all out, sell whats left, and bracket an outboard :D

That boat is one of those old Performers, the Formula/Thunderbird/Albermarle hull :D

Ah, I thought it had that 24 degree look about it - very nice. Now John, you may have even suggested to me that I close off my transom and bracket a new outboard. Sage advice for sure, but not cheap, sometimes you have to move gradually :D .
Did you ever notice how people who aren't even remotely into boating react when you tell them what a new outboard costs?

I know - but when you're busted, its easier to spend someone else's money :wall:

thanks for the GREAT feedback...:)

...I just wanted to make sure the price was fair.

....as far as ripping it out, and remodeling the transom......
