Any thoughts on anti-salt solutions for engines?
 

I normally winterized the salt water side of the engine by first flushing the engine with fresh water for a few minutes (ie, running the seawater intake into a bucket with a running hose in it) and then mixing up some antifreeze and let the intake inhale enough (normally a couple gallons) until I see it coming out of the exhaust.
This normally works OK for me but I was reading about how salt builds up in the engine and there are a few products out there that are suppose to dissolve the salt. Have any of you guys tried this? Do you think it works? In theory it should keep the efficiency of the heat exchangers close to new.

I usually take the large end caps off the heat exchanger and blast the honeycomb out with freshwater.

I know guys who use this and know marine mechanics who swear by this for outboards.
I would think inboards would be the same.

Salt-Away Engine Flushing ...

I've used Salt Away @ every flush since new and I can't say if it works or not but I use it on the entire boat and gear and it lives up to what it's supposed to do, I've had the boat all nasty with salt spray and just sprayed it on let it sit and then rinsed but I always use soap after, I think it makes cleanup easier, let's just say It can't hurt

Freshwater
 

Nothing dissolves salt any better than freshwater. Plus you can flush the system for as long as you feel comfortable for pennies (cost of tap water from your local water supplier).

I am not quite sure what the Salt-x type chemicals do more than fresh water with respect to engine flushing.

Unless you have some really tight passages and turns, IMHO its a waste of money.
