Nintendo hook up to an LCD
 

anyone have experience hooking up an old school nintendo system to a modern LCD. i have that cable wire with the box gizmo that you used to screw direct into an old tube tv, then turn to channel 3 or 4 to play. can't do that now with flat screens. and i don't believe there are RCA jacks in the back of the nintendo.

any help on this one. i need me some techmo bowl on a flat screen.

Some VCRs can make the conversion for you. Coax into the VCR's Antenna in then RCA out to the monitor.

It's hit or miss though. Some VCRs won't convert the signal, some do.

so how does it know to play nintendo vs. vcr. just when i push the power buttom on nes it will show up on screen?

One of two ways:
1)VCRs almost always will give signal preference to their internal cassette player if you push "Play"
2)Some (well most) VCRs have an "Input" button that selects which input you want to utilize.

Keep in mind though, that I've found my success to be hit or miss depending on the VCR.

I have yet to see an LCD tv without a coax input, are you sure itis not a monitor.

As far as using the vcr, tune the vcr tuner to channel 3 if that is what the Nintendo works on, then push the tv vcr button on the vcr so that it pulls the tv signal. If that doesn't work let me know and I will get you an RF modulator

Comes down to the difference between their purpose and how they were marketed. I've experienced that smaller LCDs (sub-32") typically won't have an internal tuner. Some of the cheaper units of the bigger displays often don't have internal tuners either. One rule of thumb that I've seen, if it doesn't have speakers built-in, they almost never have a tuner.

My experience comes strictly from the Corporate A/V rental side of things and what we've purchased for our needs. I don't pay a ton of attention to how the larger displays are marketed to consumers.

coax from the nintendo plugged directly into the female recepticle on the TV. done. played techmo bowl and rubber nipple last night.

Generally no tuner= moniter or display
tuner= tv
