Checked this out today, WOW for 10 £ (about $14) it is a great backup for the boat GPS!

Thanks

This thread SOOO needs more love :tooth:

On Droid:

Google Earth (Obvoiusly)
Marine Weather by Bluefin - not sure I like it yet but slowly learning it.
Tide App
TidePrediction

iPhone:

Surf Report
Tides
The Weather Channel
Google Earth
Flashlight (usually use it to find my head lamp :yak5: )

chefchris401 12-15-2010 09:16 AM

For iPhone:

the weather channel

Swellinfo

Oakley surf report

Surfline

US Harbors Tides

Sunrise/sunset

All free and easy to use.

The surf ones have all the Newport beaches and spots in soco.

Tides are accurate

Sunrise/Sunset is a cool one, tells you when false dawn is and all stages of the sun.

I had my g/f add the navionics to her droid, it works nice. The other app we added to look for thuderstorms that works well is "rainy days"

It's worth every penny!!! I love that ap. I use it as a back up to my back up on my boat (hence I rarely need on it) BUT have used it MANY times on other peoples boat(s). This thing is ***better*** than the inexpensive GPS plotters I have seen on some boats. (no kidding) There is still a few improvements they can make though.

A fun one around lady friends is .... the fireplace ap (like the guy in the Capt Morgan commercial "the best idea you every had!" I have Barry White as my music selection:biglaugh:

The marine weather ap is great (use it multiple times a day)

I had "family map" that allowed me to keep real time track of my teenagers (in google earth) (but unfortunately, the lawyers got involved and now it tells them they are being tracked. This defeats the purpose and they turn off their phone if they don't want me to track them so I canceled the service.

sb.com needs an ap (I don't know what it should do through...maybe display real time fishing reports with GPS positions :rotf2: )

ProfessorM 12-15-2010 09:36 AM

will a lot of these apps work on the Touch? I am getting the new 4 G Touch for X- Mas. I have never used any apps as my previous touch didn't have any extra room with all my music, this one has much more space. Be real hard to live without one of these things now.

BTW what the hell does 4 G mean anyway? 4th generation? what is the bottom line? speed, memory, just more advanced technology?

kenyee 12-15-2010 09:38 AM

I'm an android user so:
"creelcard" for tracking fishing data
"fishin 2 go lite" for when you are bored and want some simulated fun

I use a Moto Cliq, but the Moto Defy is the first waterproof smart phone I know of and would be ideal for fishing...too bad they had to add that motoblur crap on it so it'll take forever to get new android versions :-P

influx99 12-15-2010 12:53 PM

iPhone 4

I have yet to find one free weather app that does everything I'm looking for, so I have several (all free):
Accuweather
TWC
WeatherBug
WeatherEye
iWeatherFree

Then I also have
Tides
Bing Maps
GPS Lite
Trailhead
The Onion

And there's one called Free Apps which shows a list of apps that usually cost money that are offered for free as promotions for short time periods.

WESTPORTMAFIA 12-15-2010 01:42 PM

does the navionics chart plot

Clogston29 12-15-2010 02:51 PM

google sky map is cool

TideApp on android is ok, not the most user friendly though

Magic Seaweed on android is useful. Its basically long range (7 day) forcest for surfers with predicted wave hight, period and direction; wind speed and direction; and weather for the next week. There are tons of beaches/spots to choose from on there so getting one near where you fish is pretty easy.

No doubt a "Tell you when and where the bass are hitting in the Canal" app real soon. :fury:

If I had money to burn, I'd buy a portable cell phone signal blocker and carry it with me at the Canal.

NAVIONICS: The Leader in Electronic Charts

Useful link depending upon your hardware.

Chunkah 12-19-2010 07:53 PM

Tide App
Radar Now
The Weather Channel
Magic Seaweed Surf Forecasts
Google Earth
Google Maps

...all on Android

The Navionics app looks cool too

Frankiesurf 12-19-2010 08:30 PM

A couple of friends have that Tideapp. It has been off from Noaa Tide charts in almost every circumstance we used it in.

ivanputski 12-19-2010 10:06 PM

I refuse to come out of pocket and the technology shadows for a smart phone until they make the phone we ALL need, and they are fully capable of making:

Smart phone that is:

* Waterproof
*8 + megapixel camera WITH flash...

Until my demands are met, this new so-called necessity will remain an un-purchased luxury...

*carry on....

zacs 12-20-2010 12:38 PM

i find tideapp buggy

the bluefin marine weather is good, and also has tides so that is what I use.

Almost there....Motorola Defy is an Android phone that's weather resistant (but I've a photo with it in a cup of water), but only has a 5MP camera and that godawful Motoblur junk (my Cliq has it and it slugs when it syncs)-:

bassballer 12-23-2010 02:25 PM
