2011 Tuna changes in regulations
http://www.nmfs.noaa.gov/sfa/hms/new...Adjustment.pdf
Basically until things change its 1 tuna 27"-73" for angling no trophy. |
I really hope this just stays right where it is. No screwing around with slot limits, one under/one over, or any of that other happy horsecrap.
One fish a day is not going to hurt the species at all, and its enough take home fish to keep everyone happy. |
I agree. This is a good decision.

January 1 through January 31, 2011.
Got a notice in the mail last week. 2 commercial fish now for Jan 1 - jan 31 also. This is just to figure out where the stocks are. Most likely will not be the regs for next year. |
Ronnie I agree that they always throw the deuce at us right before it starts but May fishing should hold these regs. Watch and see.

I never understand why they cut the commercial daily take late in the winter and then act surprised when the quota isn't reached.
The gen cat runs under a hard TAC for the season - the daily limits are only supposed to be in effect to make sure the season stretches and the market doesn't flood. There is no way in hell the winter guys are going to flood the market - let it run until the quota is reached and then shut it down. Let the Southern boys actually go catch on the few days that they can get out. When I was in High School we barely made it past mid September, this over-managing though the winter is freaking ridiculous. |
The funny thing is that most of the fish early last season were right around that 70" range. I would think that when they come back in June that most will be over 73".
I do not mind either way, I will just have to wait until the smaller fish are more prevalent. |
If they stay this way we will be very fortunate.

Who needs more than one tuna per day recreationally?

Some guys like to fill the freezer in one trip.

Wipe down the steaks, vacuum seal them right away and into the back of the freezer. It's nice to enjoy good fish during the winter. |

Next year you must show us this technique John.... |

Take the frozen fish out of the bags and place in a colander to thaw and it will taste fresh again. Might have something to do with the air getting at all sides while it thaws, it works try it.
