hair triggers
getting comfortable with my new 30-06, logged in only about 80 rounds with it at the range. i noticed that i haven't got comfortable with how much pressure to put on the trigger before the pin releases. you have to pull it pretty hard. i end up pulling shots to the left quite a bit (left handed shooter).
what do you guys think about those hair triggers or do i just need to shoot it a ton more. |
You wont be able to buy anyting new with hair triggers, mass gun law states on all new firearms there must be 10lbs of pull on the triggers. Id look for a decent shape used one. Which would be in the 3 to 5lb range makes a big difference.

It may not be true on all trigger assembles but I believe that the amount creep and weight of the trigger pull are adjustable. I had it adjusted on my Weatherby and it made a world of difference.
Remember that "pulling" and trigger on a rifle will throw you off, ( and cause flinching ), you want to squeeze. |

AS what kind of rifle did you buy. I have an older savage, and when I bought it the trigger was awful. I took it to Mike Larocca in Worcester and he was done with it , was like night and day.. |
Savage makes an awesome accu trigger rifle now, thing is sweet!

I've found that through my years of teaching marksmanship that most shots that are hitting target left or right on a properly sighted in weapon is usually due to jerking the trigger or curling your finger around the trigger and a 10# pull is a little excessive and can lead to some bad habits like jerking the trigger.
I'm not saying this is what's happening in your case but besides adjusting the trigger pull# you may also wish to try adjusting on the way you squeeze the trigger. I will admit when I used to shoot AR15/M16 competatively, once I switched out the stock trigger with a Krieger match trigger my scores improved dramatically. |
i've got a remmington gamemaster 760 pump. i do feel like i have to squeeze that trigger so damn hard, my finger may be curling around and pulling to the left. i've got a local gunsmith in stoneham (coin collectors gallery) and may just take it their to see if they can adjust to the trigger pull or put in a new one.
