Magic Hat "Blind Faith"
 

Magic Hat used to make a nice hoppy beer called "blind faith". Anybody seen it on the shelf lately?

There's a liquor store in South Attleboro that has a huge selection of beers , even a few Magic Hat but I can never find Blind Faith anymore. :(

I'll have the wife check when she goes to work tomorrow......I'll let you know. If anything she get along w/ all the distributors and can find out if they still make it

I saw it fairly recently but can't remember if it was at my regular store or a different one. Magic Hat always has the year round brews like #9 and Circus Boy, and they rotate some other beers through seasonally and in smaller batches. I thought that Blind Faith was their regular IPA that was sold year round, too.

my brother said they stopped making it but recently had it out again, and they upped the alc. content...

While I enjoy the stronger beers it's a shame the microbrews have gotten into this arms race where they're each out to out ABV the other.

Not that I'm not a guilty consumer. If you're going to pay top dollar for a beer the extra gravity makes it seem most justifiable.

That being said, in the end they're just going to make us all fat.

Blind Faith is alive and well...the wife verified it for me. The are still carrying it at her liqour store too.....

So where is it sold?

The alchohol thing is getting way out of control. used to be a high alchohol beer also had lots of flavor to blend in the alc taste. now it seems , particularly with high volume brewers , they don't care what it tastes like. In fact , they want you to taste the alc so you feel like you are getting your moneys worth. A good high alc beer has the alc blended in usually with a strong grainy taste.

Saltheart, have you checked out Chris Gasbarro's Fine Wine and Spirits on Route 1 in N. Attleboro yet? I had to return something to Toy's R Us (in same plaza) on the way home from work last Thursday and popped in to take a look. Huge 4 sided walk in cooler filled with tons of craft beers, along with just about anything else you could imagine. They definitely focus on the crafts, as the front of the walk in facing the store is filled with them. The macro's are all in the back side of the walk in facing the back of the store.
They didn't have Blind Faith, but they had Encore and H.I.P.A from Magic Hat. I asked an employee about Blind Faith and he said they can order it if someone wants it.
I liked this store better than Yankee Spirits down the road. It was much less cluttered and cleaner, along with having an incredible selection of beer and wine. The employee said they also have a location in Seekonk, I think. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a big selection of beer to choose from.

Ask your beer provider. They will likely get it for you. Both my local places have it in stock.

I 'll try Gasparro's. Its like 3 minutes from my house. I did look at yankee spirits which is huge but no Blind Faith. Its all about the hops. I know its a strong beer too but there are a million of them now. A good beer with a nice hoppy aroma is hard to find. I suppose I could try asking the local packy to get some.

If you like Hoppy....give the Dogfish Head 90 or 120 a try....should satisfy

Blind Faith is a pretty solid beer. It used to come out around winter time, so it may be on its way. Used to see it in a lot of thier three beer variety packs.

Any of you guys brew your own? I've been doing it for a few years now and once you get the hang of it, it can be great. Might be an easy way to solve the missing Blind Faith problem.

Ya my friend tried making a stout last winter. it was awful but he's more retarded than me and I'm almost positive he screwed up the process. This winter will be glorious. I'm a fan of red ales which I'll make i think they have a terrific balance of hoppiness that compliments the malts. I have a growler of Cape Cod Red in the fridge im doin damage on. pretty decent

O another great beer just for another suggestion is Wolavers IPA organic. kinda spendy

I can make any beer. I generally make really special ones when I do brew. Maybe a Robust Porter (my favorite), a spice beer like ginger beer , this time of year I can do a czech Pilsner (lager yeast and saaz hops), I raspberry or cranberry or cherry ale, etc , etc Sometimes though , you just want a certain style or taste or aroma and you want it now. That's where a good microbrew store bought beer is nice to have available.

I'm a fan of the robust porter myself, although it takes some skill to give it character.

I'd be curious to see how hard it is to replicate the imperial style beers so popular with the micro brews on a home scale.

How hard to duplicate a commercial beer?

Most are very easy. Some are a little hard but can be done by an experienced brewer. Some are very hard owing to the need to use champagne yeasts , etc to attenuate to very high alchohol contents. For this , I believe combining brewing as high as possible with the yeasts you are familiar with and then extracting water (by freezing--distilling on the other hand is illegal for a homebrewer) to reach the very high alchohol plateaus.

One advantage the homebrewer always has over a commercial brewer is the element of cost. Homebrewers are not worried about making a profit so we can go nuts with specialty grains and expensive hops to get just what we want.

Some advantages the commercial brewers have is specialized equipment and access to some ingredients in bulk that are harder to find in small amounts at homebrew suppliers. Hallertauer Mittlefrueh hops is an example. Hard for the homebrewer to get but easy for a big outfit to import or through say a Washington State distributor.

The short answere is you can pretty well make anything a brewery can if you know how.

I'll give it a go though....

Its a great beer for hop heads. :)

I love the smell of hops. And yes , people have put hop filled sachets in their pillow cases for centuries to help them relax and sleep.

A lot of people don't know that in addition to bittering and adding flavor and aroma to beer , hops are also a preservative. That's one of the reasons beer that would be shipped on long voyages was made with lots of hops. example , India Pale Ale. It had to survive the trip to India from england and so they hopped the daylights out of it.
