Cabelas Surf Reel

Wondering if you guys saw the new cabelas surf reel?

Got the new catalog and the reel looks great.

Looks a lot like the daiwa emblem pro.

Has the same spool, line capacity, and weighs the same.

Already ordered two of them, one for me and one for my dad.

It's only 65 bucks too. Seems like a great deal.

I've had great luck with their products and customer service.

Any one seen or held one in person??

Lemme guess.

Another US Reels knockoff.

UserRemoved1 01-08-2011 03:59 PM

more china crap no doubt.

chefchris401 01-08-2011 04:21 PM

Not a salt striker.

It's their brand new surf reel, looks like an emblem pro, same spool style and handle.

Ill post pics and specs once I can get to my house computer.

Actually it is under the "saltstriker" line.

Cabela's: Cabela's Salt Striker® Surf Spinning Reel

Other than the very original saltstriker reel all others are complete junk.

Hopefully rugged no nonsense design means reliable manual bail.

The emblem's bail doesn't close during the cast.

Do you realize how much Federal Excise Tax is lost every time one of these pieces of crap is imported into this country, whether it's a reel or a lure. They pay excise on the import price because that's considered "the final point of manufacture"

If that reel or lure was made in the US you pay 10% of the wholesale or constructive sale price. But because they pay on the import price it's not even CLOSE to what is paid by US manufacturers.

Disgusting.

Smaller version of basically a clone of that reel is $5.88/20pc
We'll call the bigger version $10/20pc

Cabela's buying by the thousand @ $1?

Diawa mutant

Definatly a diawa but is it a older emblem pro, emcast plus or exceler? to me it looks like an emcast plus with a exceler handle......They probably do a product run for cabela's with what ever they have in stock in the parts bin.....

i just cannot imagine anyone paying under $70 for a salt water reel and expecting them to last. first school of 5 lb. blues, back it goes.
