trolling

anyone troll bombers or rapalas? if so do you tie straight to your main line, tie a barrel swivel up the line and use a leader or clip on dirct to a snap swivel? or something else?

Thanks i am just curious as to what people are doing.

I only use them for Blues, I never had much luck trolling up stripers with them. I do use a heavy snap swivel with them and just about anything I troll to cut down on line twists.

A friend of mine[yes I do have one] uses a magnum to troll with, 3' leader, at the top of that leader he puts a 3oz lead, 30-40# mono. line in about 40' of water. comes up with more bass than blues.

I work on a charter boat out of cape cod and we constantly troll bombers alone and a bomber/hootchie combo early in the season and into mid july. I fish with a 50lb main line and i attach a 5 ft section of 80lb mono to than and then to the lure. Works quite well. If you are in an area with just stripers....i recommend adding a flourocarbon leader instead of the mono to increase hook ups.
