I just read that Maj Richard "#^^^^&" Winters, Easy Company, 506th PIR, 101St Airborne division passed away.He passed away last week but wanted the news help until after services.
'Band of Brothers' Commander Richard '#^^^^&' Winters Dies - FoxNews.com 'Band of Brothers' inspiration dies at age 92 - Entertainment - Television - TODAYshow.com Why this shows up in the "Entertainment" section of the major "news" sites is beyond me. Yes, his was one of the central roles that Band of Brothers was written, then filmed around. Thank you Maj Winters. |
A true hero. Represented the best of the best. What America stood for. Hard to find that in our society these days...... God Bless...

true american hero may he rest in peace.

amazing man.
When I went to the Band of Brothers discussion at the PPAC, you should have heard what the guys that served with him said, you'd think there might be some animosity as to how he was potrayed in the book/show but all they could do was praise him and said they wouldnt have wanted to serve under any other guy. True leader and hero. |
Lets hope we are making new heros as fast as the old ones are dying. We hear about every mistake made in Iraq and Afgansistan but we seldom hear about what has been done right or what heroic deeds have been done. Hopefully someone like Tom hanks will fund a series in the future that highlites what our troops are doing now in the hostile places in the world.

Maj Winters is a true american hero. WHo helped save the world when he was needed. I dont know how you can compare one hero to another. However, there are still great men doing great things. Unfortunately the media is not behind them due to their views on the wars. Its an all volunteer force. And it's less than 1% of the country is volunteering. The pay is less than minimum wage, the deployments are long and often , the sacrifices huge, and theres alot of negativity directed in their direction. I served with quite a few heroes! |
No doubt there are heroes now just as in any other war. As you point out , the liberal media is against anything military so it will take private funding (like Hanks did) to immortalize todays heros in movies for future generations.

Theres been a few similar projects. Generation kill was on hbo awhile ago. And Sebastian Junger just made an award winning documentary called Restrepo. |

he is immortalized in military history but more recently so via the movie so it took precedence in the news reporting |

It is a must view if just to see a tiny slice of what those guys are doing over there. Restrepo is on a lot of on-demand systems now if your cable supports it. |
