So SM36, what are the weather charts saying about this one?

striperman36 01-17-2011 07:01 PM

SNE MA and RI
1-3 inches of snow, followed by 1/2-3/4 inches of rain, over 36 hours followed by below normal temperatures for the rest of the week

NH, N MA, CT you don't want to be there.

snow, then mixed, to rain, you should be 35 by 3pm tomorrow. the wind is coming in from the s/se , you'll be 40 by noon on Wednesday then drop back into the 20s.

here's a link to the a good rendering of the surface temps, wind direction and speed. it only goes 12 hours out though.

according to the HPC the gfs is tracking better, here is the link to the 11pm tomorrow night view and you can see the temps upper 30s across most of SE Mass before the artic high slams the door.
Fortunately, its a near miss with the aritic air mass

With the frozen ground and over ft white stuff covering everything, I think I'd vote for more snow vs. ice/rain....real mess about ready to converge on our area followed by some of the coldest temps of the season, this rain will freeze the covered ground solid until Spring.

Absolutely perfect conditions for black ice along that stretch this morning as I was driving in. No treatment on the roads, either, except apparently from Marion through Mattapoisett. Back to untreated at the Fairhaven line.

I think I passed about 10 spin-outs, in total. Some went down into the trees along the median on 195. One blue Chrokee looked totaled--probably someone who thought that 4wd made him bulletproof.

I saw 4 spin-outs between Mansfield and Providence on routes 495 and 95. Most people were driving pretty slow, but one idiot in a VW went flying by like he was driving a snowplow. About 6 miles ahead, he was spun into the median. That should teach him.
