New Emblem Pro 5000a vs. old
 

anyone pick up a new one ? Any thoughts ? Thanks.....

I have sold a lot of them but I don't think many have tried them yet.
I am also getting in 60 of the original 5500 emblem pro reels. We will be selling them for $104.95

So I was told the new has a smaller spool, which means shorter casts and shorter retrieves. It does have a nice new handle though!

Seems nice enough, no place to throw it around here with the Snow.

Compared to the old one...better stock handle, the airbail is nice, smaller diameter longcast spool should throw bullets with lowriders.
Sleeker design for sure.

A lot slower retrieve than the old one though, 40.5" compared to the old 48", definitely a minus for the Canal.

Going to give it a good workout, we'll see if it can take the number 2 spot on the bike from the older model.

I bet it doesn't take the # 2 spot.

Everything I have heard has been the handle is better and the bail and line roller are better. Smaller spool is the big downer.

I love my Emblem Pro and it works fine so I have no need to buy the new one.

If you are using braid the smaller diameter spool is the better casting performer.

In fact, the profile of our "new" Emblem is nearly identical to the legendary Whisker SS3000 which has been the top dog of casting performance for almost 30 years.

That can only be improved upon by adding length, spool length (height) not diameter is where distance performance is improved . . . The Emblem was designed as a bridge reel for the US market, able to handle mono and braid; it does neither to extreme performance. Daiwa was the leader in distance engineering but the reels were never marketed to the US and very few except for the highly motivated back then acquired them at great cost and inconvenience, not like now with the internet.

Here is a 45mm tall spool on the SS9000 from back in the 80's, strongest, longest casting spinning reel ever made. My SS9000's no longer fish, they are retired to just field work in casting tournaments.

I fish the modern models of these reels which only amounts to name and cosmetic changes. Here are the spools lined up: S-5000T (SS3000), S-6000T (SS9000), Basia and old Emblem. The old Emblem comes in a distant last to these three reels (and many others).

Our "new" Emblem is the mid-quality "X" reel in a three reel series that has been sold in the UK for a couple years.

The best "Z" reel is 2oz lighter than our "new" Emblem and has 8 bearings. It also features the handle from the 550£ / $900 Basiair . . .

I see you took off the little bail-flipping, jig-losing, curse-bringing, line-breaking nub from your "new" Emblem Pro.

You're not going to lose any jigs. I jig with a Saltiga 6000-Z that has a 4.3:1 retrieve and picks up 39.8" of line per crank. My jigs come in on top of the water.

I got the new one and have been out casting it but not fishing. I have the pro A 5000 and I've been able to cast at least as far as I can with my 5500. The lip on the new spool should be an improvement. As covered earlier the handle and bail seem to be an improvement. In the end only time and use will show if it is better.

Now, when I purchased it you were getting the new reel for about the same price as the old one. Now if the old model can be purchased for 104 the step up doesn't seem to be as good a deal.

Did you press that round knob on your handle in the last pic? Did you do the work yourself? If so can you tell us how you did it, please?

That knob isn't pressed on. Many of Daiwa's more expensive reels have screw on knobs and can be replaced with an aftermarket knob such as the one shown. That one looks like a round knob from the Dogfight reel. You can also get custom knobs from Jigging Master or Daiwa themselves.

Reels are supose to be shipped between the 22nd and the end of the month.

HAHAHAHA, no kidding. On mine it was called the eel losing, line chaffing, "watch out for that hook" nub.:rotf2:

The knob is aftermarket, they come in silver and Black, they come with all the hardware needed and can be put on nearly anything. The final attachment is with a through screw with some Loktite.

Some reels with riveted handles require you to cut off the stock handle but for most of those that's not a bad thing. Gives me satisfaction throwing them away LOL! Some small reels, like the 150 VS you need to open the hole a tiny bit to accept the larger shaft.

I have them on everything from SS2600's to Van Staal's to Abu 7000 to the newest reels like the Basiar pictured above and Shimano's CI4 Albrid.

They run $50 and will be available in our booth at Surfday, Suffern, Somerset, RISAA and MassBass.
