McKee Craft Marathon 17CC

I picked up a 2005 McKee Craft last fall. Anyone familiar with this model boat? I'm not sure how the livewells/wash down should work.

I owned a 2004 McKee Craft 196 Marathon for 3 seasons, I suspect the 17 is similar. What's your exact question?

My boat had a single pump for washdown and livewell. To use the livewells, you capped the washdown and opened up the individual spigots in the rear livewells. To use the washdown, you turned off the livewell spigots and uncapped the washdown.

It's a pretty lame set-up, quite frankly. If I had kept the boat I would have added a separate high pressure pump for the washdown.

the washdown doesn't have a shutoff valve? That is a weird setup?

Mine is similar, but you shut off the washdown when not in use, and open up the bait tank. I have no complaints about this system, and it is one less pump to replace, because those pumps do not do well in salt water.

GF2020,
You answered my question about how many pumps are used in the system. My second question is how are the tanks filled and to what level?

Thanks,
Ray

You'll notice each transom livewell has 2 drains. You should have a couple of lever-style plugs that you use to plug the lower holes. The livewell then fills and drains out the upper hole keeping the water fresh.

gf2020,
Thanks for the help. Can I ask why you sold your McKee Craft? They seem to be awsome boats.

Great boats, sadly they are out of business now.

I have twin boys. They got bigger, their friends got bigger. I bought a somewhat bigger boat. Couldn't afford a bigger McKee but my 196 sold to the first guy who looked at it for only $500 less than my asking price.

I love me 196 CC, never used the washdown, I trailer so it gets a good bath at home. Sad to hear they are out of business, tough well built boat, too bad.
