Not that I need one but I would love to hear why buying used is bad for future reference.

for the size of unit Paul is looking at, you f-around to save a few hundred bucks, and lose the warrenty and lineage of the unit. You have everything new in box, the connectors and such havene't been installed elsewhere.

if he was looking at a $5K, 48nmile radar, I'd have a different opinion.

You fish in the bay and you need RADAR?

1. You ever been on the Bay when the fog rolls over you and there are 10 nitwits running around in circles not knowing where they are?

2. New boat is big enough to go to The Block and Cutty at night. I would not run off shore, at night without radar. Would you???

I know it's the other drivers, I've almost been run over several times outside WPT and I don't normally make cruises where there are alot of other people.
