iPhone 3 or 3GS? 3 - no way - too slow. 3GS, a wash from what i've heard but still fairly slow

same question now for 4.2 update?
Same phone, Now the ebay app ismessed up and requires 4.0 update to reinstall.
Should I update my iphone 3 to 4.2os?

I wouldn't expect it to be any better but I haven't tested it. I have my old one still hugging a long on 3.

The main problem is that the software is a lot more resource intensive and will slow down the slower processor. From what I'm told it can be frustrating but I have no experience with the latest version.
