You can even tie this into your Radar if you have it....

Do you find these things just laying around the beach? :D

JohnR 04-14-2003 11:30 AM

Nope - Need one :D ?

Mr. Sandman 04-14-2003 12:52 PM

Actually I do. I take it this is the model on your boat?

JohnR 04-15-2003 01:42 PM

The boat doesn't have a chartplotter. I'm probably going to get an 1850D too. If I can sell a half dozen of these, I'll almost cover the cost for one - which is my motivation :) If they stop selling (which I doubt), the last one will be the one that goes in my boat :D ... And I'll run a seperate Fishfinder (color next year - boat has a Furuno 6100 now) . The model 1850D WITH the fish finder built in is $1800 smackers ...

The regular 1850D differential DGPS model without the FF is $1500 http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...=48&storeNum=3

Unfortunately, we're still a couple years away from doing it PC based for reasonable cost. Right now it would cost more to use a PC than to buy all the units you want

MakoMike 04-15-2003 04:14 PM

John,
Amen to that. I looked into going all pc before I bought my chartplotter, just not cost effective. The price of daylight viewable screens is just atrocious. If you interested, I went for a Garmin 2010C. Bought it on e-bay for $1400.

Mr. Sandman 04-15-2003 04:21 PM

Well....I will have it running by mid summer. It won't cost me much. I am re-doing the CC box and have already ripped out everything. I plan to equip it conventionally (Chartploter, Depth sounder/ff, radio but I can fit in a 15" flat panel and home grown PC in the console. I have all the parts except for the waterproof keyboard and the trackball and I can get a version of the nobletec software for nothing. (I am best friends with their beta tester.) It should be fun. I plan to install a 20GB hard disk too...I want to see if it will hold up. I have a little "shock box" I made for it.

When it is up I will post some shot...think mid July.

JohnR 04-15-2003 07:31 PM

Look at those via systems for the all in one board with no cooling fan needed and a 5400 rpm notebook HD :D

Mako - I'm selling the 1850D for $1100 - new :) and would need to see a dozen to get a 2010C - not that I'd mind

MakoMike 04-16-2003 06:44 AM

John,
I wasn't trying to critisize the unit your selling. I had the room and wanted a bigger screen, especially for where I am mounting it. It sits about 2 feet away from the helm ahead and above the normal line of sight. So I wanted a big screen since I can't get up close and personal with it. Reaching the buttoins is not a problem.

John,
Welcome to the world of Ebay, if you are smart you can cover almost all your boating expenses by moving a few things in Ebay....:)

Was it New? for 1400?

JohnR 04-16-2003 08:51 AM

MakoMike - no offense taken at all. I'm schocked that you got a 2010C for 1000 smackers off street price! Consider yourself wicked pissa lucky - unfortunately I don't see that happneing again. And yes, I would get a 2010C for $1400 if I had the chance too.

179 - we'll see. I wish I was smarter too but we'll see

Having said all that - Chartplotter is SOLD! Thanks to Buy It Now!

Sandman - I'm gonna get another one :hihi:

Mr. Sandman 04-16-2003 08:53 AM

Care to give up your chartplotter source? :D

JohnR 04-16-2003 08:56 AM

Noope :D - I can only hit this till yet a few more times - and if I'm smart, this will help fund my boating :D

Mr. Sandman 04-16-2003 08:59 AM

I'll remember that when the fishing season comes.....:D

179 04-16-2003 09:14 AM

John,
Considering you moved two plotters in such a short time, you are now a "smart" ebay'er....LOL....

May all your received bids be "high"

MakoMike 04-16-2003 11:07 AM

Guys,
Yes the 2010C was brand new, came in an unopened box. I think what happened is that garmin made all of their dealers take at least one of these and one 2006 when they first came out. The dealers away from the coast had absolutely no use for them so they were selling them off on E-bay. I know I wasn't the only one to get it for around the same price. I haven't checked on them lately, so I don't know if those kind of deals are still available.
