Boat Insurance

My insurance co. cancelled my boat insurance because I put in for 2 (legitamate) claims in the past 3 years. I can't figure how they can get away with that. You pay them to insure you but if you use the insurance they cancel you. Make sense?????????????
Anyhow, I need to find another insurance co. Any suggestions or should I just take my chances without it? HELP:mad:

Insurance companies always want you to pay high premiums but don't want to pay out much.

Should you insure it now???
You have to ask yourself what is the boat worth and the cost to replace it, if you owe any money. do you charter, own any property and then decide if you need insurance.

My 26' boat is worth $32,000.00 and I charter and yes it is insured.
Igo through United Marine Underwriters. Phone number-800-477-7140 web-site www.unitedmarine.net

My premium is$910.00 for:
liability -1 million
medical-25,000
uninsured boater-1 million
personal effects-3000.00
towing and emergency-1500.00
also covers limited charting-6 pack
also covers boat & motor

Fly Rod's advice is dead on.

Based on the value of your boat you should either use a specialty marine broker or get it from whoever handles your homeowner so you can slide your boat coverage under your personal liability umbrella for alittle exttra sleep insurance.

If you own a home put it on your homeowners ins.policy only covers you for liability, thats what i did, then i have tow boat ins.. your boat might be more valuable than mine? Just something to think about

Call Al Mott in Huntington, NY. He specializes in marine insurance and has some companies that write some unusual coverages at reasonable prices. I don't know what size boat you have, so I can't comment specifically, but he should be able to set you up. I've had several claims against my carrier and never had a problem with them.

I just got my renewal in from Prudential.

Here is the skinny.

1995 21' proline
2001 175 ficht

Protection = 30,000
Excess medical = 10,000
longshormens = statutory
unisured boater = 10,000
Hull and Equip = 20,000
trailer = 2,000
towing = 300 per

My premium minus credit is 413.

Hope that helps.

I have made one damage claim and one towing claim, and have not had a problem with collecting or getting cancelled.

Good Luck.
V.

If I had made 2 claims in the past 3 yrs, I would get the insurance.
